Product Review

Worst air conditioner EVER!

by   nyran20 ,   Jun 13, 2005

Pros:  None! Terrible unit

Cons:  Difficult to assemble, pieces missing/non-functional, confusing instructions (when you find them)

The Bottom Line:  STAY AWAY! Go buy a nice Frigidaire!

Overall Rating: 1/5 stars

Author's Review

We (my wife-to-be and I) purchased this air conditioner from Best Buy because it was the highest btu unit they had. We own LG cell phones (Goldstar has become LG) and are pleased with them.
We got the unit home and unpacked it. We hoped this would be as easy to hook up as our Frigidaire (7800 btu, model # escapes me!) that we have in the other room. As we began to unpack it, we noticed there was no manual or remote. We searched all over the box! We ended up going to the web site PLAINLY displayed on the box (lgeusa.com) which does not function properly. I went to lg.com and found the product manuals, of which this unit was not found (possibly because it's a Goldstar, not an LG) but if you put it on the box, it should be listed. After calling LG from the phone number that was on the box, I was on hold for 20 minutes then was forced to leave my phone number for a call back (a week later I have not received a call back).
After a while I looked inside the unit and found a small sliver of plastic and pulled it out. It turned out to be the manual and remote INSIDE THE AIR CONDITIONER!!!!
We then began to put it together and found that the screws that they provide were broken and as a result, did not fit in the holes for the brackets. There were screws, brackets, fittings, a million different pieces! My Frigidiare went right in the window no questions asked in the other room (they were out of those when we went back the second time).
This unit was a NIGHTMARE to attempt to assemble. After trying to put it together after 2.5 hours we returned it and got another Frigidaire from PC Richards.

Here's some of the features it has from a website I found:
° Adjustable thermostat
° 4-way air deflection
° Reversible Open Grille
° EER: 10.0
° High EER & Low Noise
° 2 fan speeds & 3 cooling speeds
° Rotary compressor
° Side by side air discharge
° Air ventilation
° Slide in/out classis
