1998 Game Of The Year But Banned In Our House
Date of Review: Apr 6, 2000
Okay I guess it is all my fault but I did not realize that games are rated and this one if for ages 13+. My nine year old asked if I would get him this game with his birthday store credit money and I did. I never realized games are rated, since who would ever see the rating since it is about the size of my finger nail???
In any event after I passed the room he was playing the game in I decided to check out the game. It sounded too loud and too violent for somebody his age, and boy was I glad I had stepped in. This may be considered a great game with great graphics and all but much to violent for my son, and for anyone at least under 13 years of age. He told me many of his friends have it and play it, but that did not change my mind for now it is hidden safely away.
The story line is clever, a real James Bond adventure with a situation where the player must help Bond out. The directions explain that "You are licensed to kill", I don't like that entire idea!!!!There are different missions the player can choose with different levels of difficulty. The objectives are centered on destruction and state that the fate of the free world depends on how you complete your mission.
There are weapon choices complete with an entire James Bond Arsenal and complicated weapons of all types and sizes. The mission begins in the heavily guarded chemical warfare facility and the violence and violent ideas continue throughout the entire game.
I guess it is my fault that I did not realize these games are so violent and I certainly learned a valuable lesson after bringing this game home. However I do believe the games should be sold under better conditions with very obvious signs indicating the suggested ages appropriate for the games so to avoid the wrong age children purchasing the games or for adults like I who did not realize what was out there.
