GoGo heavy baby?
Date of Review: Mar 8, 2007
The Bottom Line: It's fine as long as you have a hand to put the child in. It makes the child seem heavier, pressure on your shoulders is a constant.
I received the GoGoRider Baby Carrier for Christmas. My attempts with this carrier have been brief, but for twenty dollars I won't say it's horrible.
This carrier is nice for a short stroll or a half hour event. I found it difficult to put it on myself without help at first. I later got the hang of it and then found it difficult to put my child in. I needed help! I didn't find it easy to use when most of the time I was alone. You have to unbuckle, unvelcro, and unhook one side just to slip your child in. I needed three hands and a unwiggly child. I did get the hang of it though, and having my child lay down while I slide him in seemed to work.
There are two ways to have your child sit in it. Facing towards you and away from you. I was happy to see a drool rag attached, seeing how my son started teething at three months. The rag does come off to wash. There is also a pacifier attachment. The string is really short and I've never used it. My son loved being so close to me while I walked around working. He fell asleep in a matter of minutes. When my son faces outward I find that the top fold over material that helped to hold up his head, now gets into the way and no matter what I do he tries to eat it. He likes putting it in his mouth, but I would rather him not.
Overall, I think the colors are cute and there is a pocket in the front, which is nice to hold baby items and keys. I can wear it for about two hours before I'm annoyed with it or my back and shoulders hurt. I think that being short (5'4) helps, because when my husband wears it, he lasts ten minutes, and he's 6'4.
I have not attempted the mall, one of the reasons I got it. But all in all a half hour of walking around with a quiet happy baby is fine for me. If you want to walk nonstop and alone, personally I didn't find it helpful. But the short trips I need it for have worked okay.
