Author's Review
I had always admired GMC Yukon's from the outside. When I was ready for a new vehicle this was my first choice. Once I began to drive it, I had no problem transitioning from driving my previous car to this SUV. It is not hard to see, park, or maneuver this vehicle.
The driver's and passengers seats are comfortable. They not only adjust back and fourth and recline, but the driver's seat goes up and down, as well, to further customize your ride. My Yukon has the fold down seats in the back. I am able to fit 9 passengers. Although the fold downs initially look as though they would only hold two people, there is actually a third seatbelt in the middle. When my sister comes to visit with her kids we are all able to travel around comfortably together, which is such a plus. On top of this, there is still enough room in the back to hold my stroller and other items we need to haul around or pick up along the way.
The steering wheel holds the controls for the radio/cd player volume and scan and the On-Star* system and gauges. This is a great convenience, as well as a safety attribute. You can check tire pressure, oil level, fuel miles to go, odometer, and more with this feature. The rear view mirror holds the display which tells you what direction you are traveling and the outside temperature. There is both a driver and passenger lighted vanity mirror. There is plenty of room to put items under the rear seats and in the back.
*Note-One year of free On-Star service comes with the vehicle.
Another great feature is the rear air system. There are air vents in the ceiling in the back which adds to the comfort of rear passengers. It is controlled from the front, with three knobs on the ceiling above the windshield. One to choose temp, another for fan, and the last for direction of airflow. Once you memorize which button is which you can do this without looking.
The rear gate opens two ways. My model has the swing up window which opens by pushing a button to unlock it, then lifting it up. The whole back opens as well. Either way you choose, it doesn't take much effort whether you're opening it up or closing it.
Now for the mechanical. The Yukon rides smooth. I drive long distances at a time and have never been disappointed in the way it rides in either wet or dry conditions. As far as gas mileage, and although I do not know from personal experience, I have researched and read that it gets better mileage than the comparative Chevy Tahoe. I have yet to experience major mechanical problems with this vehicle. I have only required routine oil changes and maintenance. One thing I have experienced was my electronic tire readings were off causing my low tire pressure light to come on. After taking it to be checked I was told that I in fact had normal tire pressures per the specs. I was told that at times when the tires are rotated it can throw off the reading. Although this was not a major problem, it is one to be noted. Other than that, the cover that goes over the lock and window controls in the door became unglued. This is just a minor cosmetic repair.
The GMC Yukon is packed with great features. I have not been disappointed and plan to drive my Yukon for years to come.
