Broke Down Beauty

The GMC Sierra Denali is a joy to drive. I was looking for a used C3 (predecessor to this model) but the used prices were almost as high as the new one. The all-wheel drive is by far the best handling system ever on a pickup. No more spinning the tires on wet hills and it corners like a car. The 6 liter vortec has plenty of power, but it needs to rev fairly high to show it. The Quadrasteer is more of a gimmick, but I have to admit it helps in parking lots. Add the comfortable seats and all the bells and whistles inside and it is the perfect ride for me.

The first service cost nearly $600 because of all of the gearboxes (rear differential, transmission, transfer case, front differential) and alignment (4-wheel steering). The dealer put the wrong fluid in the rear differential (it is limited slip) so back to another dealer to have it flushed and done properly.

Early on, a few annoying squeaks and rattles began to tarnish the luxury image. The rear vent windows whistled loudly at highway speeds. The dealers couldn't help these problems.

At 52K miles, the air conditioning pump and water pump both started leaking and were replaced. At 61K, the front differential lost a bearing, requiring the complete replacement of the differential. At 62K, the water pump started to leak again. Lucky to have bought the extended warranty, this truck needs it.

Fun to drive, but this is one vehicle where the extended warranty will pay for itself.
