Pros: Performances, dialogue.
Cons: Not visually impressive.
The Bottom Line: Read Review
Review: Glengarry Glen Ross is a film that is made up of pure testosterone. More so than any war or action film. Glengarry Glen Ross is a film about angry depressed men. Men who work in a environment that is a lot like a...

Salesmen Caught In Mamet's Maw: Glengarry Glen Ross |
|||
|
Pros: Find me a better cast. Go on, I dare you.
Cons: Foley's direction sometimes gets in the way. But not enough to ruin the film.
The Bottom Line: Dave Mamet's Pulitzer Prize-winning play crackles and pops on the big screen, propelled by a cast made in heaven, all at the top of their games.
Review: I had a dream once: Felix Unger, Michael Corleone, Jackson Pollock (or was it John Glenn?), and John Yossarian were having dinner, hip deep in a conversation about the best way to bilk honest and hard-working people out of their money. They talked in...

A Guys Movie

Pros: The cast alone over the story
Cons: Why can't they make more movies like this?
The Bottom Line: A brilliantly crafted drama with a very strong cast, that you can't take your eyes off of.
Review: By definition, a guys movie can be labelled as a big budget action flick starring Arnie or Sly, or The Godfather. There's practically no room in between for a well acted and very intriguing character study. While most of those grandiose films are indeed ...

Pros: Creme de la creme cast, a play that perfectly captures the working man's plight...
Cons: None for me, really. It IS a photographed play, is THAT a problem?
The Bottom Line: The play won a Pulitzer, the movie should have won an Oscar. And this is the best acting Lemmon ever did. The outdoor storm reflects the living-hell they're in.
Review: by Dane Youssef Well-played, well-written look at the bottom rung on society--salesman. Real-estate, exactly. Yes, it's a "photographed play." Like just about every other play adaptation to the big screen... but it's so well done, you ...

Pros: An absolutely first-rate cast. Memorable characters. Fantastic dialogue.
Cons: None.
The Bottom Line: One of the best films of all time and also one of the most amazing casts you're likely to find in one film.
Review: In today's movie making world, audiences worldwide get blasted by so many blockbusters boasting tons of CGI effects and whiz-bang f/x that it sometimes becomes easy to forget the joys of movies where the focus is just on characters talking.

The Bottom Line: Always be closing...in on a great movie!
Review: It's Thanksgiving, but nobody wants to hear a speech about why he should be thankful. So the next time your best friend whines about his job, slap on the newly released DVD of Glengarry Glen Ross (1992, Artisan, $26.98). Believe me, he'll shut up...

Pros: Characters, writing, acting
Cons: -
Review: Compared with its bastard son "Boiler Room," "Glengarry Glen Ross" is superior in so many ways, not the least of which is subtlety.
Take, for instance, the common use of the "sick relative" as motive. In... |

Pros: Dialogue shines, acting clicks
Cons: Fast pace may be hard to follow
Review: Glengarry Glen Ross is an intense drama, which thrives on its dialogue. The story is simple: In an economic recession, real estate agents are faced with losing their jobs if they don't sell land. The opening sequence shows the desperation of these...

Pros: Strong cast, smart story, Alec Baldwin's classic scene
Cons: Film lags in a couple spots in small ways
Review:
Glengarry Glen Ross is based on a play by the same name written by David Mamet. This movie has one hell of a cast. Al Pacino, Jack Lemmon, Ed Harris, Alan Arkin, Jonathan Pryce, Alec Baldwin, and Kevin Spacey--how can one resist? ... |
