Glamour-Not So Glamourous Anymore
Date of Review: Sep 9, 2000
I have been reading Glamour magazine for as long as I could read. Every time the new issue was released, my mother would pick it up at the grocery store. I picked up where she left off and was never caught without the most recent issue. After all, the magazine features advice, how-to's and articles that pertain to a woman's life. At least it used to. Recently, however, there has been a marked decline in the quality of this magazine.
I used to look forward to each new issue like a kid waiting for Christmas. In an hour's worth of reading I could find out what was in style now, what would be in style soon and what not to wear again. There was always useful hints on how to apply make-up and use accessories. I could get advice on how to deal with a friend who wasn't being so friendly. Then is the Glamour List ! So funny it always made me laugh out loud. Oh, how I loved my Glamour.
Starting about a year ago, things began changing. There are far fewer practical articles, a lot more advertising, and a whole new format I just don't appreciate (maybe I'm just getting old). The focus has become less about how to be the best woman you can and more about how to have sex with just about any guy you want to. Yes, the beauty advice is still there, its just not as good as it used to be and seems to be targeting to one particular type of reader and not a general female audience. Not everyone is a college co-ed or a high powered business woman. I am a stay at home mom who likes to keep up with what is happening in the fashion world and Glamour just isn't doing it for me anymore.
If you are a college student or a high powered business woman who is very shallow and cares about nothing but great sex and lip gloss, this magazine is for you. For the rest of us, we need to find something a little more substantial.
