One of the most brilliant albums of the 90's.

by   LunaStarla ,  Jun 15, 2001
Pros: Music, lyrics, production, everything else.
Cons: None!!!
The Bottom Line: If you own just one Smashing Pumpkins album, this is the one you want.
Review: My first experience with the Smashing Pumpkins was Siamese Dream. I loved that album so much, I decided to back track and buy their first album, Gish. I can say with complete honesty that I was floored the first time I heard this album.

the smashing pumpkins' first and best effort

by   glazier ,  Jun 25, 2001
Pros: Superb musicianship and song structure
Cons: Fairly derivative, production could be better
The Bottom Line: A colossal, classic rock album. Features extreme dexterity with riff-based air-guitar songs, and incredible guitar and drumming.
Review: With intricately crafted songs and the notable musical prowess of both lead guitarist and vocalist Billy Corgan and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin, the Smashing Pumpkins' first album Gish is one of the finest rock records ever released. Although it is...

1991 | One of the Great Releases of the 90s

by   jbliv ,  Jan 25, 2000
Pros: Innovative songs and blistering technique
Cons: Two weaker tracks
Review: More talented rock musicians you will be hard pressed to find. Jimmy Chamberlin is a human fury behind the kit, a superhero of drumming. His fills are lightening fast and fully original. James Iha and Billy Corgan take their beloved '70s guitar and grind...

*The* Pumpkins Recording to Own

by   ChipMcDonald ,  Oct 8, 2000
Pros: No throw-away songs; lots of moods; great sound
Cons: none
Review: I've encountered so many people that claim to be Smashing Pumpkins fans, and yet they don't have this record. For that matter, some kids think the Pumpkins started with _Siamese Dream_, which is even stranger...

Most people I know unanimously...

The emergeance of real rock

by   JTroll ,  Jun 8, 2000
Pros: The epitome of rock. This is it. Superior guitar, excellent drums, great bass. You can't GET more alternative rock than this album.
Cons: If you aren't that into grunge alternative rock, you might be better off with Siamese Dream or Mellon Collie
Review: The Smashing Pumpkins began in 1988. Over two years they recorded several demos to get noticed in their home of Chicago, IL. In 1991 they released "Gish," which was to epitomize alternative rock in all of it's glory.

(Note: they...

Grunge's Main Gish with Frozen Entrees

by   Pulse ,  Nov 19, 2000
Pros: A album, raw, full of energy and improvisation
Cons: Daydream. Thankfully, it's the last track
The Bottom Line: A good way to see what is still there, what is gone and what has evolved in today's Big Pumpkins' Sound
Review: As amazing as this album gets, Gish was a victim of its own time. Luck was not on the Smashing Pumpkins' side. Nevermind, Nirvana's sophomore album and easily the best album of the 1990's, had just been released. Gish however, was not overshadowed by...

Smashing the alternative sound

by   fm_hunter ,  Jan 18, 2000
Pros: Driving, explosive rock
Cons: could be longer
Review: Gish, the first full length album from the then new band, Smashing Pumpkins, is a power packed, full on rock assault, to the senses.

This is one of the most accomplished debut albums by a band I have ever heard. Billy Corgan's vocals...

D'arcy, come back!

by   jane84 ,  Jun 6, 2000
Pros: A great mix of different sounds.
Cons: Its a short album, only 10 songs.
Review: I love this album so much. It is my favorite Smashing Pumpkins album. Their mix of hard and soft songs is incredible! The last song by D'arcy is wonderful! Her lyrics are beautiful, and her voice is very mellow. "Daydream" (the last song on...

Great Album

by   mcozzy ,  May 26, 2001
Pros: Very deep rock album with great musicianship
Cons: It's originality is blurred by legions of bad alternative bands in the 90s.
The Bottom Line: Buy this album if you have a spiritual side or if you enjoy great musicianship in rock music.
Review: This album is truly a work of art. I heard this album the week it was released. It's difficult to explain to people how original this album was when it came out. It came out right around the same time as Nirvana's "Nevermind". The sounds on Gish are...

Better than Nevermind: better than most bands third album

by   SonicDeath10 ,  Nov 21, 2000
Pros: Youth Energy, Great Songs, Great Music, Best Debut I've Heard since Hendrix
Cons: Song Writing does occasionally slip into showy instrumental prowess: lyrics are VERY weak: corgans singing isnt' the best
Review: This is one of the most amazing debuts of all time. It almost matches Are you Exprienced By Jimi Hendrix Experience (and sharing similar covers). The youth energy, and obvious technical talent make this a rush. Chamberlain's drumming is great, but would...
