Author's Review
The first time I saw this magazine I thought, How Pathetic. Boy's Life has been around forever, now this new magazine is trying to rip off Boy's Life most recent sucesses. I think Boy's Life is great for kids, so I was also a little worried that the Girl's Life magazine would bring done the luster of the Boy's Life.
I was shocked. Not only is Girl's Life good, but I think its even better than Boy's Life. And its not becaue I was a girl once. Girl's Life has an advantage right out of the gates... Boy's Life has a huge tie to the Boy Scouts of America. I don't know if it was supposed to be used in conjunction, but when my cousins were in Weblows, they were basically required to read the magazine. At that point, it was really linked to BSA. They had BSA on the cover and everything. A lot of the articles were BSA related or related to the activities that the BSA do. Only recently, they have been breaking away a little and branching out.
Girl's Life doesn't seem to have any affiliation. And I think that's good. Not the the BSA or GSA or bad, but it lets the magazine address the nedds of all girls.
The other great thing is that this magazine isn't a stepping stone for Cosmo or any other magazines like that. Its not filled with useless gossip about the hairy guy from N Synch or the funny looking guy in the Back Street Boys. Sure it has gossip, but that's not what its all about. It has a nice cross section of interests that almost any girl will enjoy, unless of course your girl is into the WWF. I don;t think they cover that. Bascially any girl from about 8 to 14 depending on maturity will enjoy this magazine.
This magazine has advice. Advice on life lessons from the trivial to the big questions every girl has. It talks about family, friends, school, boiys, makeup, etc. There are articles every month. There are pen apls oppurtunities. Stories from readers. And a lot more. Its almost like a slumber party, where your Mother, older sister, and all your friends are present. You get to pick who you want to talk to and at what time.
For once I agree with the critics.
