Author's Review
Acqua di Gio has been around forever, and with good cause -- it offers a crisp clean smell that is timeless. It's not a bandwagon or "trendy" cologne. It's a classic smell that anyone can like, and one that you won't grow tired of.
I rotate through a new cologne every few months. I either get tired of one, or I just find something I like better. I stock a few different colognes anyways, depending on the occasion and time of year. What I liked about Acqua di Gio (and I resisted buying it for a long time) is that I can wear it for anything. Summer? Of course. Formal event? Definitely. Hot date? Sure. It's versatile and neutral. Although you may not be crazy about it, you'll be hard pressed to find someone who DOESN'T like it.
The scent itself is tricky to describe, but I would characterize it as "clean". It isn't sweet or soapy, and doesn't sting when you get a whiff of it. It's not musky either. This neutral smell is again what makes it so easy to wear...I don't feel like "the guy who smells like oranges" or "the guy with all the cologne".
Being a more expensive cologne means the smell lingers for a while, but it's not overpowering. Two quick spritzes is enough for about two hours of smell. But you won't smell me across the room -- only up close, which is how cologne should be. If you're remembered by people for your cologne, you're wearing too much or it's simply too strong. Neutral colognes in moderation are the smart choice.
The bottle is frosted glass with a basic brushed metal top. Nothing crazy here, and it's easy to hold. Very simple and clean look, which fits with the smell very nicely.
