Author's Review
Gilmore Girls has been my favorite TV show since it first aired; something about a show that features two beautiful and intelligent women who live in the crazy and lovable town of Stars Hollow and don't focus on melodrama and sex.
Basic Synopsis:
Gilmore Girls is the story of Lorelai and daughter Rory Gilmore. Lorelai had Rory when she was only sixteen in a suffocating household, so she left her rich parents and moved to Stars Hollow. Season 1 begins with Lorelai having to go to her parents to get money for the super smart and driven Rorys school. Thus begins the show that so many people know and love. The parents are unforgiving, known to be quite mean; yet very real, and just as flawed as any good person. The townspeople all have their little quips and quirks that make them fun to watch and marvel at. Lorelai and Rory both have their best friends, school, and work, and all the everyday things that we all deal with. Throughout the seasons we see both women progress in life and relationships and become so involved in their lives that by the time we get to season 7, there is a bit of remorse that such a good thing has to come to an end.
I am a biased fan, so I think that Gilmore Girls is good even when its not top notch. Season 7 is not as well written as the first 5 (in my opinion the shows dialogue suffers a bit starting season 6). The witticisms are a little worn out by this point; however, the show doesnt lose any heart, warmth, laughter, or love. Ill try to write a bit about this season without spoiling any surprises for future viewers. Rory finishes up and graduates from Yale, Lorelai gets married, Lane has huge news that is entirely life changing, and come the end; we see that throughout all the painstaking Friday night dinners between the Gilmores, that things havent changed, but emotions have. Lorelai gives us hope that she finally will be happy with the man we always knew she should be with, and Rory does the bravest thing shes ever done. She allows herself to go full fledged into her new career, and we know shes going to be amazing. The final exchange between mother and daughter is beautiful, and the last moments close just as the very first episode of Gilmore Girls closed way back in season one.
I cannot say enough about the character or integrity of this show; there is no better role model for teenage girls than Rory Gilmore and no more endearing characters anywhere on TV. It is smart, funny, sweet, and full of life lessons. I was the same age as Rory when this show started, and I feel that Ive grown up with the Gilmores. The end of this show was just as much an end of era for Rory as it was for me. I cannot say that I would have fared as well without this show to comfort me during all the hard times of growing up.
