GIBSON SG SPECIAL GUITAR

by   Dr.P ,  Oct 9, 2006
Pros: This is a great guitar for the money.
Cons: None.
The Bottom Line: This is an excellent way for a person with limited means to own a Gibson.
Review: GIBSON SG SPECIAL GUITAR Gibson has a guitar that will satisfy the sonic demands of almost any player. Whether you are into jazz, blues, country, hard rock, classic rock, metal, reggae, ska, or just about any other music known to man, Gibson ...

It really is special!

by   xiphoid ,  Dec 13, 2000
Pros: Sound, design, quality...
Cons: Neck breaks are common...
The Bottom Line: One of the best in this price range...a beautiful guitar for an affordable price.
Review: When I decided to invest in a quality electric guitar, I didn't have more than a thousand dollars to spare. I wasn't necessarily looking for a bargain...just something I could afford at the time. So, I start trying out some Gibson SGs. As you can...

Gibson SG Special: A Guitar That Really Rocks!

by   soupcraze ,  Apr 26, 2003
Pros: Gibson Quality, Looks Good, Sounds Great, Feel
Cons: None
The Bottom Line: The Gibson SG Special is a great guitar, and better than the Gibson Les Paul Special in my opinion.
Review: The Gibson SG Special and the Gibson Les Paul Special are the least expensive variants of each guitar in the Gibson line. I wasn't so hot about the Les Paul since Gibson ditched the archtop design, but the Gibson SG Special is...

An affordable rock classic

by   meatex z ,  Oct 22, 2003
Pros: Band for the buck value is very high.
Cons: Clean sound, too fragile for Pete Townshend.
The Bottom Line: If you're looking for that '70 rock sound but cannot afford a more expensive guitar - search no more.
Review: I've played a couple of different SG's and it's about time to do a review. SG special one of the cheapest Gibson guitars. First it was introduced as Les Paul's upgrade in 1959. Gibson stopped Les Pauls' production and put a new model under the same name. ...

Classic SG tone without alot of fluff

by   mattk17 ,  Aug 11, 2005
Pros: lightweight and well built with almost 100% quality components.
Cons: tuners suspect on some models, also cracks around input jacks occur occasionally.
The Bottom Line: The Gibson SG special is a great choice if you want an american built guitar with a great reputation for quality for under $1000.
Review: Introduction I have owned and played many guitars over the years but one model that has slipped past me until recently was the Gibson SG. Don't get me wrong, I like the SG. It is just that I really like my well worn Gibson Les Paul and always felt like ...

SG Simplicity

by   blac1179 ,  May 25, 2001
Pros: Light weight body, fast, chunky Gibson neck, great bottom end tone
Cons: Kluson tuners and dot inlays
The Bottom Line: The SG Special is a great overall guitar at an affordable price for a Gibson. If you need Gibson tone for under $700.00, then this might be your ticket.
Review: Tony Iommi. Angus Young. Carols Santana. What do all of these names evoke in the guitar player's mind? The Gibson SG, of course. Each of the above skilled players, and many not named, gave the Gibson SG its popularity and stage character in the 60’s...

Special by name , special by nature!

by   cmmp ,  Dec 1, 2004
Pros: Comfortable to play, sounds great.
Cons: What cons?
The Bottom Line: If you havent tried one then do so - soon!
Review: First of all I must confess that I fell in love with SGs the very first time I played one. This is the third one I have owned. The Special is the cheapest of the range but it's the details that have been cut not the quality of materials. Its my ...

Pros: Easily accessible frets, killer tone, stays in tune well and good sustain
Cons: Not enough frets, that's about it
The Bottom Line: Hey, just pick it up as soon as you get the cash. This thing is TNT! DYNAMITE!!!
Review: I picked up one of these in a Sam Ash music store the other day and was amazed by what came out of it. I've only playing guitar for 9 or so months, but I sounded so much better on this guitar than the one I currently use, a Squier Affinity Strat. I...

Gibson SG Special

by   xxxexplizitxxx ,  Jul 17, 2003
Pros: It plays as good as it looks.
Cons: None really.
The Bottom Line: I have respect for Gibson's production of guitars. The one thing I never liked was their look. Now, the Gibson SG Special takes care of that.
Review: I've always liked the Gibson SG series. I know exactly why too. They have the quality of what you' ...

This guitar is awesome!

by   ipacak ,  Oct 30, 2003
Pros: Excellent tone, Gibson quality, Lightweight.
Cons: Had to replace tuners.
The Bottom Line: If you're looking for a guitar that can produce thick-sounding power chords and scorching solos - this is the guitar for you.
Review: I have been playing a Gibson S-G special for about 5 years now. It has been through many gigs, and has never given me a problem yet. Well...the only problem that I came across was the tuners, but I replaced them with Grovers and now the guitar is pretty m ...
