Some fine acting, less fine writing and directing

Date of Review:  Jun 2, 2009
The Bottom Line: some of the story of treaty abrogation and de facto genocide is probably better than none of the story being told

Review: Matt Damon's first major role was as 2nd Lt. Britton Davis in "Geronimo: An American Legend" (1993). No, he did not play the title character! He was, however, the narrator, who observed the mostly tragic events of Geronimo's two surrenders and the...

As a 'white' American, I am ashamed

Date of Review:  Jul 21, 2000
Review: After watching this movie 4 times I am still waffling over the review. Seldom do I find a movie I cannot give a review ~ even a bad review ~ on. In order to do justice to this one it would entail one that was so cumbersome that most would not read...

Re-Examining A Great Western Myth

Date of Review:  Jun 6, 2009
The Bottom Line: One of the best Westerns of the 1990s, and a probing look at a part of our history that needs re-examining, and wrongs that need to be righted.
Review: The saga of the great Apache warrior Geronimo has played a great part in the history of the white man’s settling at the American West, though it is a history that for many decades and centuries has been deified beyond all reason at the expense of...

Geronimo vs. the Blue Coats!

Date of Review:  Dec 29, 2001
The Bottom Line: This is the Indian side of the equation. This is a very good flick. See it and enjoy it, but read your history if you want the whole story.
Review: "Geronimo" claims to be 'based on a true story'. I suppose that's true in a general sense, but it's also current day Hollywood political correctness gone mad. The movie portrays Apaches as peaceful, honorable people who only want to be left alone...
