Author's Review
The George Foreman grill has been an easy way for me to prepare meals for a couple of years now. This was a great idea from the start, but it took me a while to catch on to the fact that it was such a useful product. The one I use is the George Foreman Grill that they call "The Champ". This was is a great sandwich maker, but it also serves as a great cooking tool for many other foods. The product number of this specific grill is GR10AB, and though I realize there are a lot of different George Foreman grills on the market, I think this is the best one for a household on 1 or 2 people. I can't even begin to explain how easy this product has made my life when it comes to cooking up a quick dinner in the kitchen. Gone are the days where it is required that you heat up the stove to cook your dinner, having had that experience replaced with this great new tool.
This George Foreman grill actually comes with two different levels to the machine. On the top of the grill, there is a thick plastic compartment, where you can pop bread into, and have it heated up or toasted to have with your meal. This is almost like a bread oven, in that it is "cooked" above the grill until it is the consistency that you are looking for. It not only provides you with a great bread option, but it is fashioned in a way where you can toast your bread at the same time that your main food is cooking in the grill. The heat from the grill spills up through the top, and is used to warm the bread, which is just another way to take advantage of the grill cooking your food. The plastic lid latches to the front of the machine, so you can click it in, and walk away for a few moments if you need to do anything else in the kitchen. This latch also works well if you need to flip up the top part of the grill.
The grill is fashioned in two parts, with two grill plates that are hinged together in the back. To explain, one is flipped up to place your food in the grill, and then you close it on top of your food. This insures that both sides of your food are getting cooked at an equal rate, and at an even temperature as the rest of the grill. This makes it perfect if you are trying to cook up something like my favorite dish, a nice chicken breast with a lot of seasoning tossed on to it. The hinge in the back is what they call a floating hinge, because it adjusts to the size of what you are cooking. This means that if you are cooking a larger piece of meat, the hinge will give more space, and if it is a thinner piece of something like turkey, the grill will close tighter. I love it, because then you don't have to worry about fiddling with the food before you put it into the grill.
One of the main selling points of the George Foreman grills, is that they have patented channels on the grill, which allow the fat to run off of the meat. The grill itself is constructed at an angle pointing down, which lets all of the extra grease or fat slide right off of the food, into the grates, and down into a small little dish that comes with the grill. This is such a great technique to improve how healthy your dishes turn out, and it is amazing to see just how much excess material ends up coming out of your chicken or meat. As I said, I really like putting chicken into the grill, adding spices, and grilling it to a perfect color. The meat always comes out perfectly, and if you are looking to cook it even faster, you can hold down the plates to press moisture out of your meat even faster. Everything that I have cooked on the George Foreman (hamburgers, turkey burgers, chicken breasts, chicken patties) has all turned out very well, and tasted great every time.
When you are done cooking, it is also a snap to clean up the George Foreman grill. Since the grill is double-coated, and almost as good as non-stick, you can basically clean it with a paper-towel if you need to. Once you are done cooking, unplug the machine to turn it off, wait for it to cool down, and place a damp paper towel between the plates. It will loosen up anything left in the grill, and collect any moisture left behind. You can then just wipe down the grill and you are ready to go again, unless you feel like you need to clean it with a little extra "elbow grease." This grill has really improved the quality of my food, and has saved me from eating a lot of fat and grease that many normal cooking tools would leave behind. It is so easy to use, that I don't have to do anything to my chicken but thaw it out, season it, and toss it into the grill. The George Foreman grill basically does all of the work for you, and makes life so much easier for someone who either doesn't have the time, or doesn't want to spend too much time in front of a stove. Selling for around $25.00 at most stores selling kitchen appliances, these more than pay for themselves, and it shows that you can indeed buy a great cooking tool for a little bit of cash. I highly recommend the George Foreman grills, and specifically suggest purchasing one of these models. It has made cooking so much easier, and for that I would be willing to pay way more than the current price of this jewel.
*Also includes a nice tray where the excess moisture drains into, as well as a little "spork" type tool to adjust the meat on your grill.
