Author's Review
I have been a Genesis fan for 20 years, especially during the Gabriel era where inspiration was optimum for all members of the ban... So of course I ran to buy this box set... 4 CD, The Lamb lies down on Broadway live, finally a good live recording of Supper Ready... some B sides and everything...
Well of course the Lamb Lies down on Broadway cannot be bad and I was and still is quite charmed by the fact that they only had one multi track recording of this show so human imperfection is there. But there is no surprises no great moments as expected from a live Genesis performance, it just ain't passing through no feeling way to mechanical no magic.
Third CD Genesis offered us some classics (Supper's Ready and quite a few piece from Selling England by the Pound). No complaints there, I would not have chosen the same songs but understand why they did so this is ok. The third Cd is followed by some interesting B sides. New Genesis Stuff more than 20 years later is interesting enough.
Last CD is to me quite boring, music from teenagers unfinished work interesting to listen to once and then forget about it...
The Box set itself is also disappointing the booklet is cheap, there is not enough pictures long texts somehow interesting...
For big Genesis fan I think that nostalgia made us run and buy this, after a while you return to the same old good stuff...
For the profane this has next to no value, better buy the original album than this...
Compared to the Led Zep, Bowie, Pink Floyd or even Yes box set, the Genesis box set looks cheap.
So even though as a Genesis fan I enjoyed it, I would not say I would buy it again...
