Design problem with ice maker - buyers beware.

After owning side-by-side refrigerators for 20 years, we thought that a french door looked interesting and worth a try. We looked at numerous models and chose the GE for two main reasons - the freezer was enclosed and not an open basket like many, and it had ice and water in the door, something our family uses a lot, plus it's a GE so it must good quality, right? Within a month the ice maker was broken - ice had frozen into a solid clump and was unable to be sent through the chute, breaking a plastic arm inside. The service rep came and volunteered that this was such a new design that he wasn't even familiar with it. He had to look at MY owners manual to see how to turn off the ice maker! There's no switch - you have to unscrew a hidden panel and disconnect the wire. A new ice maker was ordered and replaced at another date. The same thing happened again a few weeks ago, the service rep came again, a new ice maker has been ordered and also some electrical panel. Everything is back-ordered until 1-27-08 as of today. We've owned this since 9-23-07 and have had the ice maker OFF more than on so far. There is clearly a design problem and my conversations with the customer relations dept are maddening - I was even hung up on once! I've asked for them to replace it with another model that they've been making longer - a side-by-side sounds nice!!
