Author's Review
The first thing that strikes you is the overall silver design; it's beautiful to look at! The buttons have a good feel to them and the fader is smooth to the touch. The Geminis PDT-6000 turntable is not for novices; its designed and made for professional Disc Jockeys (DJ). Although Ive converted to spinning CDs, I still like to get the feel of vinyl under my fingers tips. In spite of everything, before CD turntables were made I was spinning on Gemini turntables. However, the Geminis PDT-6000 offers a lot more than the basic Gemini starter turntable. This Cadillac piece of equipment is marketed as the, world's first turntable that allows the creative DJ to adjust the music's tempo without affecting its pitch.
Does this sound impressive? You bet your wikki, wikki. Getting a quality turntable is not an easy process with so many brands and types to choose from. Turntables are one of the most important pieces of DJ equipment; if push came to shove you could DJ a party with a receiver, turntable and speakers. Fortunately, when you step up to the plate and get the proper equipment DJing on the cheap is not an option. Using the PDT-6000 dynamic features separates you from the average Joe. Adjusting the music tempo is a must if you are planning on spinning at major event. The master tempo dial allows for a smooth change in tempo without forfeiting the pitch of the music. The turntables adjustable flexible pitch controls range is /- 4-, 8-, 16-, and 35-percent, exceeding the average range of or פ percent. Geminis PDT-6000 awesome range offers a lot more in the way of resourceful and imaginative mixing.
The PDT-6000 is a high-torque system, with a powerful 3-kilogram motor. This motor offers extra power and great independent torque action. The PDT-6000, is fitted with an RIAA preamp, and outputs three types of signal. What does this really mean? You get, superior torque action, which means you get to start up faster and make precise changes in the mix before the crowd knows what hit them. (Did he do that?) When the torque is weak, that means youve got to do more physical labor when mixing, and if you cant scratch, mixing the vinyl flawlessly wont be an option for the less skilled. The turntable works well when connected with my digital CD player. Their digital output connects easy with my CD burner. This system is feature rich with a fully automatic digital BPM display counter, and a locking reverse function for platter direction. This direct drive system surpasses the old belt drive model, bridging the digital divide allowing you to spin 33, 45, and 78 RPM vinyl.
The PDT-6000 tonearm is also great never skipping of sliding off adding a little power when it comes to mixing and scratching. The S-shape tonearm has an arm-height adjustment range of 0 to 6 mm. The tonearm is heavy yet light enough to lift, youll never need the penny or dime taped to the back to add extra weight. If you're into scratching and mixing, you'll enjoy the new tonearm as you can hit the deck with a mallet and the needle will stay in the groove. The turntable weighs 17.5 pounds and fits easy into a standard disc jockey deck with unit dimensions of: (450 x 152 x 352mm) so mobile DJs dont have to worry about durability or bulkiness. The turntable also has a standard slipmat, headshell and removable dustcover.
This is a serious piece of DJ equipment. I have used it in conjunction with my CD player and mixed flawlessly. The only reason I dont recommend it to beginners is because the fixed controls may present a challenge for those learning how to scratch. Beginners, who dont know how to coordinate, could have some problems spinning in dim light with the two sliders so close. There is the potential to make mistakes, especially when things are getting hot. Ive been spinning for a long-time and I like the fact that this turntable can reverse the platter. The pitch adjustment and sliders are easy to use, but then again, I use to practice in the bedroom. This turntable adds a little extra excitement to my mix, especially since some of my competitors think I can only scratch CDs. Even if you primary DJ with CDs like I do, I would totally recommend adding the Geminis PDT-6000 turntable to your entertainment regiment someone always has a fresh album the want scratched. Now the Stanton STR8-150 and Technic 1200s turntables have real competition!
