GW T50 Review

by   nevalk ,   Sep 16, 2003

Pros:  Size, weight, price, features.

Cons:  extra batteries not yet available, no time lapse

The Bottom Line:  Dont spend $100 or $150 more for a camera with the same quality that may even be bulkier. Unless your looking for time lapse, good camera.

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

Author's Review

I have been looking at purchasing a 5 mega pixel camera for a few weeks. I was looking mainly at either the Minolta F100 or the Cannon S50, but checked out the Gateway T50 when I saw an advertisement for it for only $399. I ended up purchasing the T50 camera. They even had a 5 mega pixel camera for $299 and a 4 mega pixel for $199 but they were barren of the features i wanted and were bulky and plastic. The T50 came with the USB cable, a lithium ion battery, AC adapter, a 32MB SD memory card and a carrying case. It looks a lot like the cannon digital elph series which makes me wonder if it might not be made by cannon. The casing was metal not plastic which is a big plus and was smaller than the F100 and S50. The carrying case it came with was ok, but lacked any room for accessories. After playing with it, I have found the pictures to be excellent. It features movie mode, 6 shooting modes, macro, red eye reduction. One feature its missing that i was hoping for was time Lapse. My ex-gf has the F100, her pictures might look a smudge better than the T50, but it really isn’t noticeable. The T50 was much better in macro mode for those 2 inch close ups. It came down to a smaller camera that was $100 less than the Minolta F100 and $150 less than the cannon S50, so it was a no brainer.
