Acceptable but not great

by   chrisr770 ,  Jul 19, 2004
Pros: Decent recording quality. Convenient to carry. Easy to download from, and upload to device.
Cons: Controls are hard to use, especially when in case. Uploaded files stored in randomized order.
The Bottom Line: It would be perfect for my student purposes if the controls were easy to use - but they aren't. For now, it's worth putting up with.
Review: I've used one for about 6 months, for school and business. It's great for recording lectures, and for making voice notes from my reading. One of my study habits is to listen to voice notes while driving, doing household chores, treadmill, etc. (I ...

OK

by   kiwidagger ,  May 4, 2004
Pros: Size. Ease of loading music. Earphones are nice.
Cons: Stupid thumb pad. So-so sound.
Review: Not a bad MP3 player but the outdated DMP-300 it replaced is much better. The stupid thumb pad is unreliable and hard to use in the case. Mine has a habit of shutting off on its own when I'm mowing my yard, even with enough battery charge, that is the ...

Will NOT play Audible.com media

by   erathman ,  Aug 20, 2004
Pros: Good sound quality Convenient design (flash drive style)
Cons: Difficult to use controls Doesn't play Audible.com media as advertised
Review: I got this player primarily to listen to music while I jog, and for that it works rather well. The sound quality is good, and I like the Flash Drive design. Like others, I think the buttons lack a lot to be desired, and are hard to navigate. The ...

Great Sound - Very BAD Battery Life

by   fotodude ,  Mar 5, 2005
Pros: Great sound reproduction
Cons: No way near the storage space advertised. Very bad battery life. Difficult controls.
The Bottom Line: If you don't need more than 150MB of storage and not more than 3 hours of battery life, the DMP-310 is for you. Otherwise, avoid this product.
Review: I received the Gateway DMP-310 MP3 player as a Christmas gift. Upon initial use, although advertised as a 256MB player, I could only download approx. 150MB of music before the unit would not accept any more data. I reformatted the unit and was able to ...

Not very good

by   dennisma ,  Feb 16, 2004
Pros: Small, neck strap, light
Cons: Terrible terrible terrible button interface. Batteries die for no reason. FM is nonexistent.
The Bottom Line: I think there are better players out there. SHop around and don't let someone buy it for you.
Review: I received one for Christmas and so far not too impressed. The main button toggle does not work well (no it is not me...). A single button controls power, pause/play, fwd/rev track, and the volume. Sometimes when I want it to go to the next track it ...

In most respects a real disappointment

by   fixedfocus ,  Aug 19, 2004
Pros: Inexpensive for a 256MB player
Cons: Truly lousy customer support: uninformed, unhelpful. Falsely advertised Audible.com file support. Cheaply built. Unusable buttons.
The Bottom Line: Though advertised, it lacks Audible file support. The product is cheaply built and has the worst buttons and user-interface I've seen on an MP3 player. Shame on you Gateway!
Review: After much research I was delighted to find this unit. Small, inexpensive, and most importantly, the web site and packaging materials said it included support for Audible.com files. I eagerly opened the plastic container and started the process of ...

Keep looking...

by   alanmaier ,  Jun 2, 2005
Pros: Nice features and low price
Cons: Poor construction, quirky controls.
Review: I tried one of these players as an alternative to a larger player such as the iPod (which I also own). Yes, I knew on the onset that these players were in a different league, and expected a significant difference, so please do think I am comparing the ...
