Basic but verrry good!!

I bought this device on sale for $138 at Cabellas (yes, a sale at Cabellas!). I have a friend at the office who has owned GPS navigation devices since they first came out and he highly recommended the Garmin brand. He was absolutely correct! I travel extensively for work and wanted to stop pulling out the tired old maps every time I needed to get from A to B. I especially was tired of printing a map from Streets and Trips to find a local address. There's nothing worse than opening a file to discover you forgot to print the local map then having to call and ask for directions.
I spent the weekend with it in map mode to check the accuracy of the maps in areas I was familiar with. During this "test" I found the device properly displays and identifies streets as it should. I put in some destinations and it generally would select the same route that I always take. When exceptions occurred, the route selected wasn't necessarily worse than mine, just different. After all, we are all creatures of habit to some degree.
I just returned home from a week on the road without pulling out the map a single time. Some of the areas I was in this week were familiar but I allowed the Garmin to navigate for me anyway with no problems. I have now determined the best use for me is to enter the address of the location where I am going, hit the road when I know the route to the city, then allow the Garmin to find the address.
There were a couple of times where I was confused by the way the device identified highways. Again with that creatures of habit thing... Many US highways will have more than one highway number in sections where the same section of road is used. It may not identify the highway with the number YOU generally refer to. It seems to work itself out, though. Most of where I travel is not in major cities, but rather small towns. The installed maps covers those areas very nicely.
My advice: Trust Garmin and you will get to your intended destination with NO problems. If you want basic, reliable navigation without alot of whistles and bells, this is the device for you.
