Garmin GPS -- I like it!
Pros:
Easy to use after setup, nice design, did a great job right out of box.
Cons:
Downloadable features and selections were not always easy to understand.
The Bottom Line:
Garmin c530 is a improvement in the automobile driving experience. The only frustration is trying to learn about all the add-on/optional features to make it even better.

Author's Review
Recently, I rented a car with Garmin GPS and was delighted with the GPS. I quickly decided that I wanted something similar for my own car. The difficulty was in deciding which GPS unit to choose among the many manufacturers and models. Although I consider myself tech savvy, I am a GPS novice and the features among which I had to choose were not obvious to me. After study I settled on the Garmin c530 -- since for me the Bluetooth and mp3 weren't worth the expense of the next model up. At the same time, I wanted the PC connectivity that was part of c530. When I received my unit, the first challenge was starting it up. Screen instructions told me to wait a few minutes while it made a one-time adjustment to the satellites. I waited and waited, and finally with some reluctance pressed a 'skip' button. I have no idea what was supposed to happen, and was unable to find further information. Fortunately, having proceeded past this problem screen, the operation proceeded smoothly. Now I have just completed my first trip with it. It did a great job of guiding me most of the time, and I was very pleased. It should be noted, however, that after a service area stop on the Mass Pike, it became confused and showed me traveling parallel to the Pike a short distance north. This was a cause for hilarity when it directed me to take an immediate left as I was proceeding straight down the thruway. I stopping at the next service area and re-entered my final destination, which fixed the problem. I do not fault the GPS for this, since I do not expect it to always be 100% accurate. The driver must always make the final decisions on driving. After completing this first trip, I connectd the unit to a PC with Internet and downloaded software, following instructions at the Garmin website and in the manual. The manual was helpful in locating the right website links, and was faster for me than hunting through the website trying to find things. I don't feel that I have a good command of all the optional add-on features of c530 such as MapSource, POI, and unlock codes. I don't yet know how they can help me. I wish there were more overviews and tutorials on installation and use of these features. More pre-purchase information on features would have helped me in making the best choice of a GPS unit.
