Good starter GPS, all things considered

I had been thinking about buying a GPS for awhile and being in a foreign country with no english maps that made sense, to someone who gets lost a lot, a GPS seems right up my alley. I didn't really do much research into them prior to getting this unit but even if I had, I think I would still get this one.

It's fairly easy to learn how to use, with a well written manual.

The display is large and easy to read with the text being customizable in size.

The menu keys are above the display, which might get in the way for people with larger hands than mine, but it works well for me.

The backlight at night works, though it is a bit odd getting it lite the first time. Since you use the power button, I ended up turning the unit off the first couple times.

There actually is a mapping feature, but it's a straight line point A to point B system. Definitely NOT the system to use for mapping in a town. It IS a marine system after all.

There is onboard memory for storage of tracks and waypoints, but it's only 1MB. As I get lost a LOT, 1MB isn't much.

You also have to purchase seperately the cable to connect it to your computer to install updates and new data points.

I'm glad I got this one as opposed to something else for a starter system. Easy to use and learn is a good thing, and you'll get a feel for what you'll need, use and want when you come to a point of upgrading. Definitely gets my recommendation.
