Great for bike rides

I have had my Forerunner 101 for quite some time.
This unit has: Navigation (as would be expected for a GPS)
Training Assistant, history (intended for athletes)
shows speed, distance, laps, elevation, grade, average and maximum speeds, and estimated calories. Battery life is not its strong suit with alkalines, much better with lithium. I frequently use the Auto Lap function, rarely the Virtual Partner. The navigation function is similar to the other GPS units, but lacks the route mode. Bearings are in cardinals only, OK for general land use, but useless for some hiking and nearly all marine use. This unit can be set to statute or metric, but not nautical. Position is in Hddd mm.mmm format, does not have other formats. The datum is not specified, most likely WGS-84.
There is a speed alert which I haven't used, but would be useful for motorists who are prone to speed. The calorie mode is more of a gimmick than anything. There is also an interval training mode, which I don't use. This is, overall, a good GPS unit for its intended user, with many runner-specific functions. Most of these functions are also good for bikers, its other target user. Drivers might want to use its average and maximum speed and distance modes and maybe the auto lap to track driving habits.
