Never pull over for directions again.

Date of Review:  Dec 27, 2001
The Bottom Line: Perfect balance of features and cost. It works well when driving/trying to find a place, and excellent in the outdoors, walking around, and traveling long distances.
Review: For men, who have a genetic coding that precludes actions like, say, pulling over to ask for directions, and encourages behaviors such as, say, playing with electronic gadgets and wandering into the woods, this little device called the Garmin eTrex...

Excellent navigation tool for the money

Date of Review:  Jul 5, 2005
Review: The eTrex Legend is a rock-solid GPS with everything a sportsman, hiker or geocacher would ever need.

Garmin put a lot of thought into the features, but left a little to be desired in the design and operation. The primary function button...

Extrex Legend - Excellent GPS

Date of Review:  Feb 14, 2002
The Bottom Line: Get One, You Will Love It!!
Review: July 2001 I decided to take the plung and get a gps. My requirements were that it must be able to load up maps and must have built in memory. After much research I decided on the Garmin Etrex Legend.

This GPS has more features than a...

Great GPS Receiver!

Date of Review:  Mar 8, 2007
Review: This was the first Garmin I purchased, and it was used heavily for over three years. Never had a problem with operability, except it seemed sluggish at times in cold weather. The accuracy is unmatched by other handheld brands. Useful for hunting,...

Great device!

Date of Review:  Apr 10, 2007
The Bottom Line: This is a good device for toying around with and using for simple running and bike trails.
Review: This is a nifty little GPS. It doesn't do much in the way of road travel, but if you want a good GPS to toy around with or map your biking routes, this is definitely the way to go.

First look:
The device is very attractive with a...

Great value GPS

Date of Review:  Mar 22, 2005
The Bottom Line: Might leave you wishing for better, but if you don't NEED lots of features but want something better than the basic GPS, it's not a bad choice.
Review: I've had my Legend for about 2 years now, and It's been a pretty good unit.

When I bought it, it had the best features for the price. It's small, lightweight, easy to use, higher resolution screen than similarly priced units, and map...

Fine in the open, terrible in the trees!

Date of Review:  Jul 1, 2005
The Bottom Line: If you arent going to be hiking in the forest and/or mountains, this GPS is a good option.
Review: It seems by reading tons of reviews on the Legend that the antenna really is the achilles heel of this GPS! In the 3 years I've had my unit, I can say that this is true too. The people who dont experience problems are most likely in flat areas with...

Good GPS, but didn't last,-- so I bought another (?)

Date of Review:  Aug 12, 2002
The Bottom Line: It is a great unit, but if you buy one, treat it extremely delicately.
Review: I've owned my Garmin E-Trex Legend for a year. I've used it on several road trips in unfamiliar territory, and countless hiking trips. I've always had it by my side, whether I've needed it or not. It has helped me make critical decisions in my...

Great technology, low cost!

Date of Review:  Mar 25, 2003
The Bottom Line: A full featured unit for a very reasonable price. Auto navigators will require a different unit, but this is a "Must have" for the outdoor enthusiast!
Review: Wow, a few years ago a mapping GPS cost over $350 and was so big you had to mount it on a dash or boat console. Here's a unit that fits in your pocket and costs (after rebate) less than $150!
Perfect for Kayaking, hiking,...
