Nice unit for the price

Date of Review: Jul 20, 2003

The Bottom Line:  I strongly recommend this unit to anyone who travels. I have found it to be a great asset. Garmin did a fantastic job on this one.
Before purchasing the Legend, I had done extensive research on several units. For the price, there is a staggering amount of technology in the Garmin.

By itself, without any extra software, it contains interstates, US highways, state highways, and a few county roads. Metro areas are well covered, with major city roads shown once you zoom in on the map. There is information for services located within about a quarter mile of interstates, and even includes rest areas, and weigh stations.

It is designed to be operated with the left hand, and learning the button locations, and there various functions is time consuming, but not impossible.

I found the "Click Stick" a bit difficult to use. I resembles the finger stick used to control the pointer on a lap top computer. It could have been designed better.

I would recommend getting the Mapsource software by Garmin to use with the unit, as it greatly increases the usefulness by adding more detailed map information for user selected areas.
