About as good as $200 buys.

Date of Review: Mar 23, 2004

This unit is about as good as $200 buys. I can't add much new here. As has been said in other reviews, it does not have an external antenna jack, and I think that the eTrex antenna is inferior to the quad antenna in Magellan Sportrak models, and also inferior to the antenna in Garmin's own Rino models. It is a little slow to acquire sometimes. I've found WAAS to be largely useless...perhaps it will get better in time. That aside, I'm generally very pleased with its other features and capabilities. I've used it for navigation and Geocaching, and it works well for both. I would prefer the control setup to have a regular directional pad instead of the stick, but that would enlarge the unit. Considering the features packed into this unit, it is pretty easy to use. The menu structures are practically intuitive if you are used to a Windows PC. I wish the mapping software was a lot cheaper.
