Author's Review
I originally saw this movie at the local theater and loved it.
Garfield and Odie's comfortable life is jostled around by their owner, Jon Arbuckle when he finds out his girlfriend, the lovely veterinarian, Liz has been chosen to go to England on an assignment.
Jon decides to surprise Liz in England. But, first things first...what to do with the pets? Jon decides to kennel them. Big mistake, Garfield despite the comforts left by John at the Kennel takes matters into his own hands and while John is making arrangements with the Kennel for Garfield and Odie, Garfield opens Jon's suitcase packed with Jon's clothes for the trip and you guessed it. Out went the clothes and in went Garfield and Odie.
But, before all this happens, we are taken to England to a castle, where another cat by the name of Prince XII lives among wealth. Prince XII is a spitting image of Garfield. So, what do you suppose happens in this story? You guessed it! Garfield and Prince end up switching places and the fun begins.
I guess I should tell you Prince's owner dies and leaves the estate to him on the condition that he stays alive. So, now the twists and turns of the story begin. The villain, Lord Dargis, the only human heir to the throne, tries to dispose of Prince XII by dumping him into the river, so he can take over the estate. Lord Dargis thinks his troubles are over after disposing of Prince XII. Not! They've just begun!
Okay, switch back to the original Garfield. After arriving at England, Jon is surprised by Garfield and Odie. Jon attempts to keep Garfield and Odie in the hotel room so he can spend time with Liz. Do you think that is possible? Nope! Garfield finds a way out!
Back to Prince XII, Smithee, the Butler finds out he's missing and is on his way to town to pick up some laundry for the evil Lord Dargis when he runs into "Garfield" thinking he is "Prince XII" and brings him home to the castle. The castle animals realize Garfield is not Prince XII but work very hard at convincing him that he is royalty until the real Prince XII can be found. What do you suppose happens when Garfield gets a taste of royalty and Prince gets a taste of the simple life?
I found this movie quite hilarious. I mean you take a country cat who's never lived a life of luxury and switch places with a cat that has had a life of luxury and the fun begins.
Once Garfield finds out that Lord Dargis is up to no good, the story gets funnier. All, I can say is Lord Dargis is given what he has coming to him!
I loved when Garfield and Prince XII played the now you see me, now you don't game with him. Or was he seeing duplicate Kitties?
Although the beginning of this movie, was in England and then switched back to the country life of Jon, Garfield and Odie, I felt it was done very smoothly.
The writers did an excellent job of the role reversal with Garfield and Prince XII for this movie.
I loved the antics of Garfield as a wealthy Kitty, as well as watching Prince XII switched to a life of lasagna and laziness and the way the writers brought them back together and placed them back in their original lives.
Bill Murray did an outstanding voice of Garfield in this movie as well.
Tim Murray did an excellent job with Prince's voice and character.
And, as always Breckin Meyer and Jennifer Love Hewitt both did an outstanding job with their characters, Jon and Liz.
