G.I. Jane is about a female intelligence officer who goes after Navys elite, the Navy S.E.A.L.S. One place no woman has entered before, until now. Jordan ONeil (Demi Moore) is hand picked by Senator DeHaven as a test run for full integration if Lt. ONeil can make the cut. Most of the Naval officers bet that she would not last a week. Senator DeHaven basically makes a deal with the devil for this opportunity, if it works she will be placed on political pedestal and keep her office, yet if it fails, she will still be placed there for attempting to get full integration into all non-women placements. Lt. ONeils boyfriend is also in the Intelligence Department, and he is not gung ho about the idea, yet deep down he does not believe she will make it.
When ONeil arrives the C.O. (commanding officer) of Catalano Naval Base in Florida briefs her. He reassures her he is only following orders, meaning he is NOT happy with what he has been asked to do. ONeil makes it clear she does not want special treatment, yet she will have separate bed quarters and head (bathroom). The training is cruel and tough, needless to say if it is do or die, then so be it. The men have been briefed about ONeil and are not happy either. They have been given a sensitivity lesson just for ONeil. Master Chief calls them out to muster (line up) and briefs them all together about what life will be like for the next 3 months. Oh and if they want to quit they may by ringing the bell three times. Until someone does day one will not end.
Day one seems to continue for about three days. In between they are mentally and physically challenged beyond normal endurance. Sleep has been withheld and food is offered for a limited time, literally, if they dont finish too bad. Nobody is hammered more than ONeil to quit, but the more the Master Chief harps on her the more determined to stick it out. She pushes herself more to physically work out harder so she will make the grade. During one maneuver or testing she is ordered to use the white steps to make it over the wall. Making it through, and yet when she gets to the wall she kicks away the steps and makes herself a step for the rest of the team. Cortez is the last one over and he calls for ONeil to grab his hand for help over, yet he loets her go and tells her to quit. As he bails over the wall, ONeil grabs the steps and hurdles over to the finish line only to stumble of the hidden trip wire. Six did not make the cut and have to redo the run the next day. In fact neither did ONeil but because she was a woman she was given 30 extra seconds, which let her in the cut the first time even though she tripped the wire.
Slowly the other men see her for who she is and do come around, even Cortez. They still give her a hard time yet begin to treat her as one of the guys, especially after she cuts off all her hair. I bet while this movie was in production Moores husband Bruce Willis was just a little more enamored with his wife. She is a lean mean buffed out woman that even had me jealous. There is so much more but it is all tied together. Giving out anymore will ruin the ending. Please take the time to rent G.I. Jane, it will be well worth your time.

My Final Two-Cents:
The movie tends to be dark a lot of the time due to the night shots. If your TV allows you to change the video settings do so as I did. When I saw his the first time, I was ready for a more drama flick not a loud blasting movie. Though that didnt bother me, just took me for a loop. There is a lot of betrayal going on in the sidelines and most of that is by the Senator herself who put ONeil there in the first place. There are quite a few suspenseful moments that keep you on your toes. If you HATE to see a woman beaten to a pulp there will be one scene you will find revolting. I even shied away during this scene because it was so bad, yet this is where O'Neil shined and finally won over everyone including the Master Chief who went too far. Go ahead and see it for yourself. This will be one I will be buying and adding to my collection. The last few segments before the end of the movie are too good to miss. I will not ruin one little bit of it because it is THAT good.

Parents:
Even though I listed Not suitable for children of any age I would say that 16 is an okay age to begin at. There is a lot of abuse give to the men (& woman) that kids just should not know about.
