Author's Review
I wanted this oven for a few years before I actually broke down and bought it. Since it was installed, about a year ago, I've used it every day, from cinnamon rolls to a whole chicken. If I had to live without it, I probably could, but it would be like .... so 1990.
I cooked a whole chicken in about 30 mins., but I think it was better in the oven, for 45 minutes. I cooked 4 HUGE boneless, skinless chicken breasts in the Advantium in about 12 minutes, which didn't even give me time to get the rice done, and they were moist and juicy. A tube of cinnamon rolls were cooked in 5 minutes, although they were not as browned as in the toaster oven, my family really couldn't tell the differance. I had an Arby's sandwich leftover from lunch and with the Advantium, you really couldn't tell it was a leftover, verse being just eatable coming out of a microwave. My husband cooked a t-bone steak and was pleased with the outcome, and he is picky about his steak.
Now for the dislikes. Most packaging directions are for either the microwave or for the oven, so its hard how to know how to cook it in the advantium. There is a speedcook dial that has some items already programed (like pizza, bagel bites, refrig. biscuits, frozen waffles, french fries), but its hard to know how to translate this to other items not listed(which leads to alot of "how do I cook this" from other family members). There is a recipe feature to store foods frequently cooked, but I haven't tried using it. It also cost about $200 to have the 240v plug put into the wall, which is a steep price after spending $1500 for the oven itself and $100 for having the oven installed. We also had to wait 2 weeks for the oven to come to us from GE, not too many places have the 1000 in store to take home. You also have to clean this thing about once a week to keep the lights from having grime build up on it and then cook times almost double! The users guide says not to use cleaning supplies in the oven, so lots of elbow grease and using the scraper is needed ( I use vinegar and water in mine, since thats not a chemical and it works). Another draw back is that there is no light when using the microwave function. You have to really pay attention to what feature button you push, my child used the microwave tray for the speed cook oven, good thing it wasn't for a flammable item such as popcorn in a paper bag. Also, there is lots of smoke when using cooking spray on the pan and lots of grease spatter when cooking fatty foods.
