GE Profile PDW7880G Built-in Dishwasher: Perfect for Any Kitchen

In today’s kitchens, nice appliances are needed to create a warm and homelike atmosphere. Without efficient, quiet, and easy to use appliances, a kitchen is more of a hassle rather than that warm gathering place (that housing magazines aim for). Just recently we purchased yet another house and decided to renovate it - you know, tune it to my wife’s…err….I mean our preferences - so that our house would be warm and inviting. In the midst of this renovation we had to choose appliances for our new kitchen, and we decided to go with energy-efficient GE Profile machines all around. For our dishwasher, we chose the GE Profile PDW7880G Built-In Dishwasher.

The GE Profile Dishwasher is a sleek stainless steel machine that meshes perfectly with granite counters and tile or even wood floors. There is a stripe of black on the bottom as well as near the top so that buttons can easily be seen. Basically, I can see it looking good in any type of kitchen; silver is the new black, and everyone wants it. The dishwasher that we have is located under the counter and is next to the sink and the refrigerator. It opens all the way and both washing and drying racks extend all the way out to make it easy to load and unload the machine.

Something that I really like about the GE Profile Dishwasher is that as soon as your push it in, you know it’s closed because it makes a little “beep” sound and lights appear to show which functions the dishwasher will perform. Once you actually start up the machine, it locks so that it cannot be accidentally opened. However, to unlock, all you have to do is hold one of the buttons for two seconds. Pretty neat, eh?

I find the storage space of the GE Profile Dishwasher to be adequate for a normal load. I can usually fit two or three “sink fulls” of dishes inside with ease. The way the rack is set up allows for tall plates, silverware, pots and pans to be put on the bottom. On the top I find it best to put long and short items, such as big wooden spoons, short cups, and small bowls. Generally, I don’t have trouble finding space to put big-ticket items, which is certainly a nice advantage to have.

The GE Profile Dishwasher comes with a large amount of cleaning options:

I find these cleaning options to be more than enough; I especially like the China Crystal one, which actually works! With our old dishwashing machine we would always have to hand wash good china because of their sensitivity. However, with the GE Profile Dishwasher, there are no problems; the china comes out without breakage.

So how does this baby clean? To be honest, I’m pretty impressed. With a normal load, I hardly ever find missed spots - everything usually looks spotless, and the heated dry makes sure that there are no unwanted water marks or streaks. I have never found any broken glasses from overheating or over washing, so that’s a good sign as well.

The only time when the machine has a problem cleaning is when there is dried food on kitchenware being cleaned; for example, hardened pasta sauce on a bowl that has not been drenched immediately after eating may not come off with just one dishwasher run. Sometimes I find myself inspecting the plates so that I can pick off anything that is left over, but I only find that this happens when the bowl or piece of silverware was used to handle a food that easily hardens. The best way to avoid this? Put water over the bowl or silverware to soften the substance before sticking it in the dishwasher.

I generally find the GE Profile Dishwasher to be quiet and efficient in its works; I can put a load in, take a shower, get ready (keep in mind that I‘m a guy), and by the time I get back down it’ll be toward the end of its drying cycle. During the drying cycle the dishwasher automatically unlocks, and I have made the mistake of opening it during this period. The steam is massive - these babies go through a boiling hot drying course, so be careful!

So what are my thoughts on the GE Profile PDW7880G Built-In Dishwasher? Overall, I like it a lot. The machine is sleek and modern and it fits perfectly in just about any kitchen. Its capacity is certainly adequate for the average home, and I like how it’s quiet. I usually find my dishes spotless and without streaks, though there is the occasional food particle here and there - but that’s understandable. Overall, I would certainly recommend this dishwasher to anyone looking for a quality one.
