Product Review

Pretty, Not Practical

by   audmac916 ,   Aug 4, 2008

Pros:  Many different cycles. Fast, efficient and quiet. Modern and pretty.

Cons:  Small capacity, dish racks designed poorly.

The Bottom Line:  I would recommend this dishwasher to someone who had a small family. It is not practical for someone who has a larger family, or a large amount of dishes.

Overall Rating: 3/5 stars

I got this dishwasher because it was a very nice looking appliance with the trusted GE name. It was a little on the expensive side but I thought the stainless steel and black design was really pretty and sleek. It matches my oven and microwave so it was kind of a must have for me. It has a ton of great features as far as wash cycles, it has one for crystal and china, glasses and it also has a sanitation cycle, which is great for silverware. it washes and dries the dishes much faster than other dishwashers I have used in the past. The main problem I have with this dishwasher is the capacity. I didn't realise that it held so few dishes until I had brought it home and I had used it a couple of times. I live in a home with two other adults and two children and it just doesn't work well for our family and the amount of dishes we have. I have to run it every single day. There is no real place for bowls to go on the bottom. You have to basically cram everything you can in there any way you can. The parts that hold the dishes in place do fold down to allow room for larger items but that makes them very flimsy when you use them for a regular load, they tend to fall over and you have to remove all of the dishes in that row and put them back in. Being stainless steel it is also pretty hard to keep clean. You have to buy special cleaning products for it. One really cool feature though is the top rack has smaller racks that fold down on top of the cup holders so you can put smaller items there. I use it for bottle nipples that are too large for the silverware basket. The sanitation cycle comes in handy also and I use that every once in a while to sanitize bottles and other dishes. If I could, I would go back and get a larger dishwasher that would work better for my family.
