Don't buy it...

Date of Review: Oct 13, 2006

The Bottom Line:  do not buy this unit, breaks down too easily. technicians can't seem to repair it either.
Do not buy this microwave. We have had a Maytag repair guy out 6 times in the past 2 years to service it. They have basically swapped out all button panels, boards, and internal parts leaving only the shell. Yet still the microwave operates randomly and it seems only when it wants. It will sometimes work fine for weeks, then will not work at all, the technicians told me GE microwaves have a lot of problems. The most recent tech swapped out the PCB circuit board and also noticed a burned out thermostat that controlled the fan while he was in there so he swapped that out as well. It will heat a cup of water up while the tech is here right after a parts change then will die a few hours later acting weird again. Sometimes when we open the door of it and then forgot something and closed it and walked away it turned itself on - sometimes when it turned itself on the light and fan are on but no heat but sometimes there is heat. That is a SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD if it turns itself on and there is nothing in it, it can short circuit your entire house, trip your circuit breaker and/or cause a fire. We are with HSA Home Warranty and they are telling us that GE will not replace it, not GE. I have not spoken to GE direct. However by now after 6 technician visits and 3-4 hundred of dollars in parts HSA should have just replaced it for my $25 deductible.
