by   michiman1 ,  Jun 28, 2006
Pros: Beautiful Stainless steel exterior, Multi-functioning as either microwave or convection oven, Easy to clean
Cons: Price
The Bottom Line: Outside of it's top-end price, I have no serious complaints. Ultimate in kitchen convenience and flexibility, easy to clean and attractive stainless exterior.
Review: When our faithful Tappan double oven finally gave out on us last fall, we ended up selecting the GE JVM1790 Convection Microwave along with the G E Profile JB968 Electric Kitchen Range for a maximum in ...

Terrific appliance!

by   pjsummers ,  Jun 19, 2007
Pros: Functions,appearance, style
Cons: faint timer signal, manually putting in and removing the convection oven shelves
Review: I purchased this oven several weeks for an install over my range. I wanted it for the convenience of a second oven. I am most pleased with it so far. It cooks, browns and crisps quite well. Muffins, onion rings and baked potatoes have turned out really ...

a nice design that works well

by   gopvalues ,  Feb 5, 2008
Pros: Good design that is both easy to use and visually appealing
Cons: Cannot use the metal racks during microwave only cooking.
The Bottom Line: Good functionality for the money. The convection mode is very handy as a 2nd mini oven.
Review: The GE JVM1790SK was purchased at Home Depot, and I installed it in about 3 hours plus 1 hour to run a dedicated 15 amp circuit from the house electrical panel. The microwave functionality is easy to use. In particular reheating food and beverages are ...

GE JVM1790SK Convection/Microwave

by   epinionated666 ,  Oct 28, 2008
Pros: Dial style time entry is nice and easy.
Looks great.
Firm feel to the door.
Cons: 15 second increments on the microwave.
Microwave use is noisy.
Carbon filter not supplied with machine.
The Bottom Line: I would buy this product again knowing what I know now.
I like the look and it is easy to use.
Review: Our biscuit colored microwave broke and so we decided to join the stainless steel revolution. We first tried a KitchenAid product but the rear of the microwave was 3 inches taller than the front (fooled me !) so it wouldn't fit our regular sized ...

Just bought a new one....GE JVM1790SK, Stainless Steel

by   kittycat69 ,  Mar 31, 2009
Pros: Easy to learn to use, dials and knobs easy, bakes nicely, looks great.
Cons: Wish button panel on door would light up so I could see @ night.
Review: Beautiful, stainless steel, very nice appliance.  Very easy to use but must read the manual. Bakes beautifully, easy to clean.  I love the convection bake...bakes nice and even with browning.  Mine preheat quickly and easily, much like my ...

Only 1 week old, lots of questions

by   rctx ,  Mar 5, 2009
Pros: Looks beautiful.  Lots of setting to play with.
Cons: I have not perfected the bake option.
Very expensensive.
The Bottom Line: I'd recommend the use as a microwave...but I'm not ready to recommend it as a convection oven.  I'll have to post an update later.
Review: So far it works great as a microwave.  I haven't tried all the functions, but the ones I use the most are simple and easy enough to use.  However, I've tried baking twice and was disappointed both times.  First, I tried to bake frozen fish ...

Poor customer support from GE

by   laxmanr ,  Aug 3, 2006
Pros: Product looks good.
Cons: GE Customer Service is worse than pathetic. 1-800-GE-CARES does not care.
The Bottom Line: If you want service, better get some service agreement with the shop you buy GE stuff in. GE service sucks.
Review: We purchased this microwave from PC Richard & Son over a month ago and have not used it even once. There is a rotating knob which you use to select functions and change options. This did not work and we were told by PC Richard & Sons agent that we ...

Microwave ok, Convection oven is useless

by   jddog ,  Mar 15, 2008
Pros: Good power, nice syling, all common features
Cons: Convection mode is useless, Pricey , Limited support
The Bottom Line: It is a good microwave but the convection mode is poor which is what adds cost to the unit. If convection is important to you look at other makes
Review: I started the search for a new micro after our old one finally died. Going to many stores and web surfing for features and prices the saleman at the local home store suggested the micro convection oven for baking small iems or pizzas. This sounded like a ...

Direct sunlight in a tin box would preheat faster.

by   millennm ,  Feb 2, 2008
Pros: Shiny interior to impress your friends.
Cons: Find more use with our $20 toaster oven.
The Bottom Line: Avoid GE convection ovens. Seems like anything that runs at 110v will cause alot of disappointment if used for baking.
Review: The JVM1790 takes a full half hour to reach 425 degrees. Forget even trying to get it to goto 450 degrees. I thought I had a bad JVM1790 unit. Therefore, since I work at Home Depot I pulled down their JVM1790 display. I plugged it into a 20amp 110v ...

28 days old--The Saga Continues

by   sjh92124 ,  Dec 8, 2007
Pros: microwave works
Cons: Bake feature burns food. I've lost $22 worth of food
The Bottom Line: Buy a different brand
Review: To update my last saga on my nearly month old JVM1790: In the past 5 days, three repair persons have looked at my unit. Two told me that it is not possible to increase the baking temp above 300 degrees. The third tinkered with the calibration and managed ...
