Author's Review
This range was in our house when we bought it, and my husband and I were happy to have a gas range. It seemed to work well, cooks evenly, etc. The burners work fine. They are a bit hard to keep clean, but nothing that gets me upset. I cook a lot, and use the oven and burners nearly every day. It is a very rare day when we don't use at least one burner. I don't know how old our range is, I'm guessing 3-4 years. Last year the oven starter died, and cost $200 to replace. (That figure does include labor.) Recently the most important button on the electronic control panel has died -- the "bake" button. In order to turn on the oven and set the temperature, you first have to push this button. It is very common now for me to have to push the button 20-50 times to get it to work. I've called GE to ask about repairing this problem, and all they'll tell me is that they can send someone out for a minimum of $85 (if nothing is actually repaired.) Based on a bit of internet research, I think the bill to fix this would total $200-300. I'm not willing to have a range that costs that every year, so right now my plan is to go buy a new range that costs less and has an electronic panel only for non-essential items like a clock and timer. Tonight our dinner will be an hour late because that's how long it took me to turn on the oven -- completely ridiculous. (It is worth noting that the once this button finally does "push", the oven always turns on with no problem and heats up very quickly. As far as I can tell, the problem is entirely with the control panel.)
