We needed a new microwave for the cabin. The last one was bought many, many years ago and was about the size of large TV so replacing it was a no brainer when it started to give us trouble!
We don't use the cabin more than a few times a year so we didn't want to spend a lot of money but we did want something we could count on. We ended up buying the GE JES735WJ 700 Watts Microwave Oven which turned out to be a wise choice!
JUST THE FACTS PLEASE
The GE JES735WJ 700 Watts Microwave Oven is a smaller oven which works great. It isn't large enough for our family to use all the time but it would be fine for a smaller family or as in our case, occasional use.
At home, we need to be able to use our microwave for everything from defrosting large portions of fish to making tea to cooking frozen meals to melting chocolate and on and on. One of the 7 of us uses it daily.
But, at the cabin we only use it a few times per week. We might make a few bags of popcorn or use it to heat up the water for hot chocolate. Therefore, we can get by with a smaller, less powerful microwave.
The GE JES735WJ 700 Watts Microwave Oven has an auto defrost feature for items up to six pounds. We used it twice -- once for chicken and the other for salmon. Both items were nearly defrosted at the end of the cycle. I just added a small amount of cooking time and that worked great. I actually prefer having it not quite done over one that not only defrost the item, but starts to cook it!
There are a few convenience cooking controls -- popcorn, pizza, potatoes, beverages and food plate. I have used the popcorn and beverage settings multiple times. Each time my tea was hot and 95% of the popcorn was always popped. Guess that is all I can ask for!
The rotating turntable is glass and dishwasher safe.
I noticed there was an On/Off timer option but really, when would you NOT want to be signaled when the food is done? I have never looked into turning mine off but, apparently it can be done.
There is also a child lock out feature which is a nice option for those with small children.
So, all in all, a pretty decent amount of features for an inexpensive microwave.
I would recommend the GE JES735WJ 700 Watts Microwave Oven for anyone who either has a small family, wants to save money or only needs one for occasional use. It is a decent smaller oven with a turntable, auto defrost and pre-set buttons for often used items -- all for less than $40! I am giving it a solid 4 stars.
