Two duds and no Customer satisfaction!

The Bottom Line: If you buy, be prepared to replace this model on a regular basis.
Ten years ago we bought a GE Spacemaker MW for our new house. It died after 6 years. We thought this was a rather short life for a microwave but dismissed it as a fluke and bought another. To our surprise, we didn't have a lot of replacement choices. In fact, we had no choice but to replace it with another GE Spacemaker--it was the only model that could be hung under our kitchen cabinet.
Four years passed and our replacement has now gone to MW heaven. While I like the MWs features, its life is a bit too short for me. We haven't had this problem with other microwave ovens. We still use one in our office that we bought almost 20 years ago!!
I called GE Customer Service and asked whether they would cover the cost of repairing or replacing MW #2 but they wouldn't budge. Cost of labor to repair BEFORE REPLACING ANY PARTS is about half the cost of a new MW. I understand they can't fix or replace every appliance out of warranty but I think there are occasions when exceptions should be made.
Did I mention there are only two adults in the house who use the MW and we just aren't that hard on appliances. In addition, I sprung for the cost of an electrician to make sure the problem wasn't our electrical wiring.
I'm switching to another company and model that will just have to sit on a kitchen counter. As for the "hole" where our GE Spacemaker used to be--I'm turning it into a shelf for cookbooks.
