Product Review

Scratch and Dent Sale

by   kbierline ,   Jan 29, 2003

Pros:  This item cooks well and is relatively easy to use

Cons:  Cleaning, staining, and horrid customer service

The Bottom Line:  I would urge anyone shopping for a convection/microwave oven to keep shopping. I have received horrid customer service and have a microwave that is ruined. Any buyers?

Overall Rating: 1/5 stars

Author's Review

I purchased a JE1590BC microwave/convection oven 6 months ago for our new house and began to notice staining in the interior almost immediately. I called GE customer service to request assistance for stain removal and was told to follow the owner's manual. As requested, I cleaned with Formula 409 and Fantastic...no luck. I then tried the stainless steel cleaner that was recommended, Bon Ami, again no success.

I called GE customer service and asked for a service rep to look at the problem and see what assistance they could provide. Much to my dismay the service rep told me that the only way to remove the stain was to use a steel-wool pad. Yes, ladies and gentlemen you heard correctly...a steel-wool pad. Please note that on page 25 in the owner's manual it clearly states that you should "not use a steel-wool pad;it will scratch the surface." This is listed in bold letters! I now have a microwave that is pitted and scratched and still stained.

When I called customer service to complain about this I was told, after being put on hold for over 25 minutes, that this was the proper way to clean it and there was nothing that they could do about the scratching that their service person had put there. They also told me that it was apparent that I had "introduced an element in to the microwave" that did not belong. I asked if "food" was the item that should not have been introduced and I was told...we can not comment on that.

Please think before you purchase any GE appliances. Their customer service and lack of action as a consumer advocate would make anyones disposition turn sour!
