This fridge was purchased at Wal-Mart in Orlando originally for my dorm room on campus. The box barely fit in the back of the car as it started raining when I purchased it. Moving this thing around isn't particularly easy for one person unless you happen to be the line backer on a football team, have a strong back, or happen to have a hand truck handy, don't be afraid to hand truck this item and please be careful, it is moderately heavy. It's not real practical to move around for one person alone, so for the dorm one might want to consider something smaller and more conveniently sized. I had to eat most all of my meals from this fridge so I felt I needed a larger one than the smallest model and this was the next size up.
It worked great for storing frozen foods and fresh and I thought I needed the 4+ cubic feet of storage space so I didn't have to go to market every day for food. Now I'm back living at home at the moment, and this neat little fridge which was lasted more than 4 years now has proven itself nearly maintenance free. It does require occasional defrosting, which can sometimes get a little messy, so don't let it get too iced up before defrosting or one might find oneself with a lot of water to deal with dripping out whilst the machine is unplugged to defrost.
I find it quite convenient to have a second fridge and use it to store beer and milk and it seems to stay nice and cold even after all this use. My only complaint is that it seems to use quite a bit of electricity, so the insulation could possibly be improved upon to improve energy efficiency. It's sitting on our porch so it obviously doesn't mind some moisture in the air, it seems to be rock solid reliable and sturdily built.
I found it's black exterior rather stylish, although not everyone will find that black fits in with the decor. The fridge comes with removable shelves, and items can be stored in the door too, the layout and design is rather well thought out. Reliability has been good, but power consumption seems a little on the high side, so think twice about whether or not you really need this item before purchasing, because there are some hidden costs after the time of purchase (called operating costs), which might be a little high in my opinion. I love that this little fridge keeps on ticking away years after I purchased it, and it seems really well made.
The only drawbacks to this fridge is the lack of auto defrost, although I am sure that saves a little on the electric bill, but I'm not 100% sure how this model compares to other brands when it comes to energy efficiency so do your homework (when I first purchased it I used it in my dorm room and didn't pay a separate utility bill). One will just have to manually defrost this particular unit when the frost gets built up too heavy, so keep a towel handy.
In conclusion I am glad I purchased this fridge and I'm glad it can still be put to work. I'm glad it still works, and I hope that others can benefit from my relatively good experience with this GE product.
