Product Review

Buyer Beware - This might burn you

by   newdave ,   Sep 26, 2008

Pros:

It looks good, and installs easily.

Cons:

Flesh burning controls.

The Bottom Line:  With the extremely hot controls and faulty components, try your luck on a different manufacturer.

Overall Rating: 1/5 stars

Author's Review

We are extremely disappointed and discouraged after recently buying GE Monogram’s model ZET1PMSS, and working with the GE Appliance Store in trying to repair an overheating issue. After 6 service calls and 4 repairs, we still have a dangerous appliance in our home.

The oven does not cool down appropriately after usage and remains extremely hot to the touch on the exterior controls. The compartment above the heating area houses all the controls. In this space is a thermostat controlled fan, designed to activate when the control compartment is at high temperatures, thus cooling the area to protect the electronics, and keep the exterior controls cool. However, the fan and thermostat circuit board are faulty, thus causing the exterior controls to become dangerously hot after the oven has been shut off. We have had the components replaced 4 times thus far, however the issue remains. Our young child has been burned twice.
After multiple service calls and many repairs, we still do not have an oven that works properly. GE Appliance Store refuses to replace the oven at this point, and continues to try and repair the issue. Frustrating. For this type of investment in a premium product, we are getting economy service. Buyer beware.
