Despite criticism, I believe Futures is one of the most solid albums in a while
Pros:
Great guitar work. Good lyrics. Good mix of soft and hard songs, easy to like.
Cons:
In one or two songs, lyrics are cheesy. Song "Polaris" is a bit boring.
The Bottom Line:
I recommend this album to anyone who won't harshly dismiss because of the rare, afformentioned cheesy lyrics in one or two songs. Anyone who likes softer rock with some edge.

Author's Review
It wasn't too long ago that I wasn't a Jimmy Eat World fan. Sure I had heard a couple of their songs, namely "The Middle" off the Bleed American album, but I hadn't really taken enough interest in them to buy one of their albums. That all changed when I heard the first single off of the "Futures" album, "Pain", which was released in late 2004. I found the song really cool, with some awesome guitar work and a pretty strong chorus as well. So I went to the nearest music store and purchased "Futures". So... is Jimmy Eat World's future bright? Put simply, I disagree with a lot of nay-sayers on here who say "Futures" is a bad, if one of the worst, albums out there today. I think the album delivers what Jimmy Eat World has always promised with their music - Strong meaning, some good guitar playing, and a good mix of soft stuff and hard stuff. Two songs that are particularly ragged on by the public, in "Kill" and "World you love" are, in my view, two of the songs that make the album so great. I found pretty much every song to be quite catchy, and I often listened to the CD for hours on end without losing interest.
And to stop anyone from thinking this, no I am not an avid emo fan. In fact, in my life time, i've only heard two emo bands - Jimmy Eat World and Dashboard Confessional. So i'm not one of those die-hard fans of emo. I just think "Futures" was a hell of an album, and I, for one, would be angry if Jimmy Eat World doesn't get ahead with this album, I believe it is their best to date, and that the Future can only hold better for J.E.W. if they keep going this way.
