Author's Review
I love Audrey Hepburn, she is my favorite actress, she is the definition of class and charm. So, having said that, my opinion may perhaps be biased, but I encourage you to see this film, even if you aren't an Audrey fan, this may put you on the road to becoming the next fan of Audrey Hepburn.
I don't think I would classify this as my favorite Audrey films, but it is still a good movie. And since I can't write an opinion on Sabrina, well I could the 1995 version with Harrison Ford and Julia Ormond (which isn't a bad film, it's just not the original), but not the Sabrina I want to write about, I'll have to do Funny Face.
I love musicals, and, even though I hate to say this, Audrey wasn't the best singer in the world, Funny Face still has some classic tunes. And Fred Astaire; its perfect. Everyone of Audrey's movies has her falling in love with an older man, but can you blame her...Fred Astaire, Gary Cooper, Gregory Peck. I mean, these guys don't compare to some of the men of today, but they are all nice looking and for their time, they were pretty darn good. However, I'm not writing about her leading men, I'm writing about Funny Face.
It's a good little film. Fred Astaire is a photographer who "discovers" Audrey in a bookstore. She could care less about being a model; she is an existentialist. She eventually ends up going to Paris to do a photo shoot, but only because she sees it as a "means to an end"; her real goal is to meet other existentinalists. However, and true this is predictable, but who cares, she ends up falling in love with Fred Astaire. I like Funny Face because it has some great numbers, and especially it shows Audrey at her....well, her Audreyest. I reccomend it to people who like classic films, people who like musicals, people who like Audrey, or people who want to get to know about Audrey Hepburn. It's a nice little movie to discover her in.
