Looks Great, Washes Great!
Date of Review: May 7, 2007
The Bottom Line: If you are looking for an energy efficient washer, you can't go wrong with the Frigidaire Affinity.
Our Search for the perfect set!- skip ahead if you want to know specifically about the washer
We inherited my inlaws washer and dryer when they moved to another state. It was just a basic top loading washer and dryer. They were only a couple years old when the dryer went out. We decided to bite the bullet and get a whole new set.
I had my eye set on the Whirlpool Cabrio. However I read so much information about how front loading washers were better, so I started looking around for front loaders. I went to Aarons (a rent to own place) and saw a GE front loading pair. I talked to the salesman for a while and told him I would have to talk it over with my husband.
We read reviews on the GE and most of the reviews were positive. Later on the salesman called to let us know he had gotten a new w/d set. It was a Frigidaire Affinity in glacier blue. I was VERY interested. I have always heard good things about Frigidaire appliances. Plus the only drawback I had about the GE set was the color. I know, it's kind of superficial. I live in West Texas and the dust is horrendous. Therefore I HATE white! I thought the glacier blue was very pretty and wouldn't show up dust as well.
After looking at more reviews on the Frigidaire set we decided to get them!!!
The Washer- clean clothes, happy Mama:-)
I couldn't wait to wash a load of clothes. Almost immediately after the delivery guys left I started it up. It has a lot of different selections to choose from. Some of which include: Normal wash, Deep Clean (sanitizes), Heavy Duty, Delicates, and Perm. Press. Then you have the choice of water temperature. One thing I really like about this washer is you don't have to guess at the size of the load. You know how most older (non-energy efficient) washers require you to choose a setting based on the load size? The Frigidare Affinity does this part for you! How cool is that?!
First Reaction
The washer is very quiet. I was used to my big klunker that (even though it was leveled) made a racket during the spin cycle.
A normal load takes about 45 minutes. I know this is a little bit longer than most he washers, but it spins the clothes so well that they come out damp (not sopping wet).
The clothes come out smelling really clean too! Plus I like how it washes out the detergent. I never really realized that my top loader held a lot of it in. However my husband is allergic to some detergents such as Whisk and Tide. At the grocery store I was only able to find Whisk in high efficiency so I went ahead and got it. Well amazingly the detergent didn't cause my husband a rash (like it normally would). So now it doesn't matter what we use!
Another feature that I really like about this washer is that it has a child lock!
Closing Thoughts
I am very happy with this washer. It gets the close super clean, saves energy by knowing how much water to use, and it is pretty blue color!:-) I think the best feature is that I actually want to wash clothes. I never thought I would say this, but it's actually quite fun!
