The old cook stove, or old range just couldn't put out the right color flame anymore. The old range was at least 30 years old. My wife said she didn’t need a range with all the fancy frills and buttons. I went to one store, Lowe’s, I walked around the new ranges for 20 minutes. The first Frigidaire FGF316 Gas Kitchen Range I looked over is the one I purchased. Just a simple range with no frills, nor fancy controls, and an easy to clean top.

The new Frigidaire FGF316 Gas Kitchen Range is a light weight range, not like the old range that seem to weigh a ton. I hauled the range home in the back of my work van. We live 45 miles from the nearest Lowe’s and the delivery cost would’ve been a fortune. I couldn’t carry the range standing up right in my van, but he attendant was really helpful about what side of the range to lay down. He said, “ never lay your range down on the burner control knob, and oven door handle side, because the oven door handle, or burner control knobs could be damaged.”

First off, I love the little on and off light switch located to the left front of the range for the oven. The bulb is located inside on the back top left side. Easy to get too and install a bulb when needed.

I’ve had experience with installing gas ranges, gas hot water tanks, and gas dryers. I wouldn’t recommend anyone installing a gas appliance if they’ve never done so. Call an appliance man or someone you know who has had experience with gas appliances.
We have a shut off valve at our gas pipe range connection. I shut the gas off and went from there. Uninstalled the old range and then installed the new Frigidaire FGF316 Gas Kitchen Range. I’ve never check for gas leaks with a lighted match, nor should you. To check for gas leaks I use soapy water. The gas will make the soapy water solution bubble if there is a gas leak.

Electric Ignition
This part of our new Frigidaire FGF316 Gas Kitchen Range is most impressive to me. I didn’t have to search and find where to light a pilot light. An electric ignition is installed in the oven also
Operation of electric igniters should be checked after range and supply line connectors have been carefully checked for leaks and range has been connected to electric power.
To check for proper lighting, push in and turn a surface burner knob to the LITE position. You will hear the igniter sparking. The surface burner should light when gas is available to the top burner.
Each burner should light within 4 seconds in normal operation after air has been purged from supply lines. Visually check that burner has lit. Once the burner lights, the control knob should be rotated of the LITE position. If you don’t do this the igniters keep on igniting.
There are separate ignition devices for each top burner. Try each knob separately until all burner valves have been checked.

CAUTION, DO NOT PLACE PLASTIC ITEMS SUCH AS SALT AND PEPPER SHAKERS, OR PLASTIC WRAPPINGS ON TOP OF THE RANGE WHEN IT IS IN USE. These items could melt or ignite. Potholders, towels, or wood spoons could catch fire if placed too close to a flame.

ELECTRIC IGNITION MODELS ONLY. In the event of an electrical power outage, the surface burners can be lit manually. To light a surface burner, hold a lit match to the burner head, then slowly turn the surface control knob to LITE. After burner lights push in and turn knob to desired setting. Use CAUTION when lighting surface burners manually.

Before setting oven controls

1. Oven vent location
The oven vent is located below the backgaurd. When the oven is on, warm air is released through this vent. This venting is necessary for proper air circulation in the oven and good baking results. Don’t block the oven vents.

2. Removing and replacing oven racks
To remove, pull the rack forward until it stops. Lift up front of rack and slide out. To replace, fit the rack onto the guides on the oven walls. Tilt the front of the rack upward and slide the rack back into place.

3. Recommended rack positions for broiling, baking,, and roasting.

Rack positions, 1 to 6. I starts at top and works down to 6.
A. Broiling meats, chicken, or fish......................................rack position 1 or 2
B . Cookies, cakes. pies, biscuits, and muffins......................rack position 3 or 4
C. Frozen pies, angel food cake, yeast bread, casseroles,
small cuts of meat, or poultry..................................... .........rack position 5
D. Turkey, roast, or ham.....................................................rack position 5 or 6
Warning, Do not use the broiler drawer for storage. Items place in the broiler drawer will catch fire.

Caution, Should a broil fire occur, leave the broiler drawer closed and turn the oven off. If the fire continues, throw baking soda on the fire or use a fire extinguisher. Do not put water or flower on the fire. Flour may be explosive.

Important Safety Warnings

1) Stepping, leaning, or sitting on the doors or drawers of this range can result in serious injuries and also cause damage to the range. Do not allow children to climb or play around the range. The weight of a child on an open door may cause the range to tip, resulting in serious burns or other injury.

2) Do not use the oven broiler for storage

3) Do not store items of interest in the cabinets above the range.

4) NEVER use your gas appliance for warming or heating the room.

I would call this just a plain simple range, but it is all we need.
It doesn’t have a self cleaning oven, but what the heck? A little of our elbow grease won’t hurt us.
Especially the wife.

The price was remarkable on our pretty white Frigidaire FGF316 Gas Kitchen Range
$267.00 plus tax.
