The cleanest smelliest clothes EVER!

I bought the Fridgidair Affinity washer after our 20 year old washer bit the dust. I loved it right off the bat. It has some great features and it is really quiet. I can do all my laundry in about 1/2 the time it took me before because it can wash more per cycle.....the problem is....is smells horrible! After owning it for 6 months or less I started noticing a horrible rotten egg smell when I opened the door. After some investigating I noticed black mold and mildew inside the rubber ring that seals the door. I have tried cleaning it and it is not doing anything. I leave the door open now, but it is still not clearing up. I have done my research and found that this is a very common problem among front loaders in general. So, the question is do you want really smelly clothes and towels. Sometimes I think my towels smell like vomit and I am trying to figure out where the smell is coming from (I have two young children and two pets) and I realize that it is just the towel itself. From what I understand, even people that have always left the door open still have this problem....and how inconvenient is that to leave the door open all the time? This is just like asking for your kids to throw a crayon or something else in there without your knowledge!
