The Pieces That Were Missing.

I don’t think there is one true horror movie fan that has not seen the horror movie of all horror movies. The horror movie that pretty much started it all, “Friday the 13th.” Even if someone didn’t see the actual movie, I am sure that they have heard the story at least a million times.

Let’s refresh our selves with the story of Jason Voorhees. It takes place a camp called “Camp Crystal Lake.” In the year of 1957 a young boy named Jason Voorhees (Ari Lehman) drowns because of two camp counselors too busy with each other to even notice him swimming in the lake. After the boy accidental death the camp closes and later reopens in 1980 by a man named Steve Christie (Peter Brouwer.) The new crews of camp counselors, slowly arrive but at the same time slowly disappear, one by one. Throughout the whole movie the viewers (you and I) do not see the killer until the very end and for those who have not seen the movie YET I will not spoil the ending for you by tell you who it is.

Now for the missing parts: Well I am frequent horror movie watcher. I wouldn’t call myself an expert or anything but I have done some research on this film, especially since it is my favorite movie of all time. I managed to come up with some conclusions not only by the research but also in the “Friday the 13th’s” that followed. Jason Voorhees did not die in that lake. He did come close though. With the help from his mother Mrs. Voorhees (Betsy Palmer) she revived and cared for him back to health. He didn’t come back from the grave he was alive.

Many people assume poor little Jason drowned and died in the lake and later comes back from the grave to avenge his mother. It didn’t quite happen that way. Also (sorry if I spoil it for the virgin viewers that have not seen the movie) but Jason was alive and saw his mother beheaded that night by Alice (Adrienne King). Soon after Jason avenges his mother’s death starting with Alice (part 2.)

In the later series’ Jason does become abnormal due to the affects of nearly drowning to death, living in the forest, and becoming something evil. If you watch each series bits and pieces are told and put together to form the whole hidden story of Jason Voorhees.

I must say that I have seen this movie at least a million times along with every other series that followed. In my opinion “Friday the 13th” started the whole horror genre by forming a path for future slasher horror movies. It is too bad that many horror movies that came after, long after can’t even be compared to it. They don’t even come close to what “Friday the 13th” offered its audience “PURE HORROR”

Here is a little something about the Director Sean S. Cunningham: Originally from New York, started directing low budget films. Later he decides to move to Hollywood and discovers an idea for a great slasher movie entitled “Friday the 13th.” The movie it brought into the cinema in 1980 and has been a classic ever since.
