Franz Ferdinand: Where Have the Last 20 Years of Music Gone?

by   lambchops , lead in Music at Epinions.com ,  Apr 14, 2004
Pros: Very cool, very retro, very refreshing brand of indie rock...
Cons: Maybe a bit too kitschy for some listeners...
The Bottom Line: The Scottish band, Franz Ferdinand, discounts the direction of music in the last fifteen or twenty years and returns to a keyboard-guitar-percussion formula that works perfectly.
Review: The name Franz always reminds me of that one Dana Carvey/Kevin Nealon skit on Saturday Night Live. And Ferdinand? Well that too has some lasting connotations not at all related to music. When I was a kid, there were a few books I really liked. One ...

"It's with your sins that you have killed me, thinking of your sins I die"

by   socrazy ,  Jan 5, 2005
Pros: its existence
Cons: ... "Cheating on You" isn't as good as the rest?
The Bottom Line: says "you turn me on"
Review: There once was a girl who lived a very boring life. She bought albums by artists such as Dio, and she was very depressed. One day, she bought a CD which immediately caught her attention. "What's this?" she asked herself. "I feel like.. I should be ...

Full-on Fun From Franz Ferdinand (alliteration rules!)

by   PacManY2J , top reviewer in Music at Epinions.com ,  Aug 21, 2004
Pros: fun throwback music you can dance to
Cons: :::
The Bottom Line: Let's hope this Franz Ferdinand doesn't end up like the other one.
Review: Just when I thought I'd be getting sick of the present day's "they sound old, so they must be good" trend, along comes Glasgow's Franz Ferdinand. Injecting tons of old-time fun and dancability into their rock, Franz Ferdinand are giving the music scene ...

"Jacqueline was 17, Working on a Desk when Ivor Peered Above a Spectacle"

by   thevoid99 , top reviewer in Music at Epinions.com ,  Apr 15, 2004
Pros: Dark, Funky, Bouncy, & All Sorts of Stuff in Franz Ferdinand's Quirky Debut.
Cons: None.
The Bottom Line: Franz Ferdinand's Self-Titled Debut is By Far One of 2004's Best Debut Records for its Blend of Post-Punk & Funk.
Review: One of the hottest new bands in Britain, Scottish band Franz Ferdinand is currently making waves in Britain with their blend of post-punk and funk. Consisting of singer/guitarist Alex Kapranos, guitarist Nick McCarthy, bassist Bob Hardy, and drummer ...

FRANZ FERDINAND--I'M ALIVE...AND HOW I KNOW IT!

by   jarvococker ,  Sep 29, 2004
Pros: Take Me Out, Jacqueline
Cons: Retro disco leanings may turn off some who hated the 70s
The Bottom Line: FRANZ FERDINAND from Scottish scalawags emerges as the finest and most exciting of the year
Review: The eponymous debut album from Scottish quartet Franz Ferdinand begins simple, a folk lament with hushed flamenco overtones reminiscent of Belle and Sebastien. But oh how "Jacqueline" has surprises in store, indicative of the rest of the disc as a whole. ...

Cheat On All Your Other Garage Bands and Listen to Franz Ferdinand

by   chaseatwister2 ,  Jul 11, 2005
Pros: Quirky, fun, and almost ridiculously hot.
Cons: My review title.
The Bottom Line: Franz Ferdinand is the new black!
Review: In the past few years, the number of garage/retro bands has sky-rocketed. Anywhere from The Hives to Interpol, the scene has completely blown up amongst the indie crowd and has even trickled into the mainstream. A lot of these bands were ...

Dance... Just Dance! To The Beat! The Beat! The Beat!

by   afterburn ,  Feb 2, 2005
Pros: Dance, dance, dance!
Cons: They aren't reinventing the wheel, I guess.
The Bottom Line: Dance-rock-punk-disco-pop done damn well.
Review: Franz Ferdinand once stated that if they had their way, they would erase Archduke Franz Ferdinand from history and replace him in the collective consciousness of the world with themselves. Well, taking their self-titled, full-length debut into ...

Franz Ferdinand Painted Us a Picture With Music - Gosh, it’s gear too

by   willowchild ,  Jul 22, 2004
Pros: Wonderful dance club beats, clever music
Cons: Not much but what cons are there are mentioned in the review.
The Bottom Line: Really wonderful songs, great beats and catchy, intoxicating music. Over all this is a very well done, enjoyable album.
Review: Imagine if people made music just for kicks and crafted songs like pieces of modern art. One day I was watching music video after music video on Launch looking for some new and interesting. Well, I found it - in the form of Franz Ferdinand’s ...

Ich Heisse Super Fantastische

by   andymack ,  Mar 10, 2004
Pros: 11 Solid tracks without any weak links
Cons: It ends far too quickly
The Bottom Line: A superb debut with big things yet to come
Review: The stream of decent Scottish bands seems to have been carrying on recently with the arrival of Snow Patrol and Franz Ferdinand on the music scene shows that for every Mull Historical Society Scotland is still capable of producing a few decent bands. ...

I want more Franz Ferdinand

by   omaenokachan ,  May 3, 2004
Pros: Every song is good, most are fantastic.
Cons: A couple songs are possibly repetitive, but there really isn't much downside at all.
The Bottom Line: Buy the album. It is one of the best 3 CDs to come out this year.
Review: This record was highly touted on various sites, so I went ahead and bought it. The first thing I liked about it was that a 7" LP came in the mail with the CD. Second, the band is named after the Archduke Ferdinand who was shot, sparking WWI. How cool is ...
