Author's Review
It was born into the family of Angela (that's me) on January the 2nd, 2006. I had been eyeballing the Ford Expedition for about 5 years. Saving and then spending and then saving up again for just as long. The only thing I was concerned about was the transmission. It seems I have bad luck with them. I had previously owned a 1991 Ford Taurus LX. It was only mine for about 6 years, and during those 6 years I had put in 2 1/2 transmissions. I know the first one and a half was my fault, but the other 1 who knows. The sales person assured me if I took care of it right and didn't have a heavy foot it would take care of me right back.
Well about 2 hours and $43,000 later the Expedition was mine. Black clear coat paint with black trim. All leather seats inside (seats 8, exactly what I wanted). Power lock/windows. It can even tow stuff! So far I found 10 cup holder spots in it, wow. There's enough room so if I ever take it camping the SUV will be my tent. I drove it off the lot, freshly cleaned, full tank of gas and only 20 something miles on it.
.....Day 1, Monday.....
After returning home from the dealer, I took the family out for there own "test drive". They loved it too. The headlights let me see the road ahead (unlike the old Taurus that had very limited light). There was no question where I was headed, or what was heading towards me. The gas tank holds 28 gallons and uses ~14 miles/gallon city driving. By the end of the 25 mile drive it looked like the gauge had barely moved.
.....Day 2, Tuesday.....
Up early to go to work. The windows were fogged up, so what a great time to test the defroster. Turned on the car (has a VTD chip that must be in, below the steering wheel or car cannot be started or hot-wired) and the vents within a minute the windows were cleared. The back windows are tinted, but you can see very clearly out them. The street before entering my place of employment has a sharp turn. Considering the fact that I have a larger SUV. The steering was incredible and I did not have to make a wide, out of the way turn. The only thing I need to get use to is parking.
.....Day 3, Wednesday.....
Today is my day off, went to the hardware store to pick up some shelving. The side mirrors are very large, about twice that of my old Taurus. It makes seeing what's behind you very clear, but as your turning just remember what was on the side in front of you! The third row on seats can be lowered flat by a push of 2 buttons (1 button lowers 2 of the seats, the other lowers the third). The second row seats can be flattened by pulling a latch. Tomorrow I'll measure the space. For sure you could haul a Queen sized mattress & box spring with ease!
As this is a brand new car, and something I have not had any experience with, I'll try to keep up this diary for a week or so, and note any troubles, and especially the joys!
Revised 5/21/09
As of today I've had my car for 3 years and some odd months. I've noticed that on the hood under the paint there is some rusting. Or at least it looks like rusting. So far I've had nothing but pleasant experiences with my Ford Dealer. I'll be taking it in the first week of June, lets see how this goes!
