2006 Escape - You Can't and you Won't

Date of Review:  Mar 7, 2006
The Bottom Line: Try it and see . Not the SUV to buy for serious off-roading, but its roomy, zippy and (finally) reliable.
Review: The Top Line

I've been driving a 2001 Escape for the last five years – and I love it. Of course, there are a few things about the vehicle that can drive you crazy – more later. Last year I rented a 2005 and noticed a lot of improvements,...

First domestic hybrid

Date of Review:  Oct 8, 2005
The Bottom Line: An excellent first effort by Ford. But like other hybrids the price cannot be economically justified.
Review: The current gas prices have even an enthusiast such as myself thinking about hybrids. And especially about hybrid SUVs, as I moved to a new neighborhood earlier in the year where the streets are not plowed promptly. So I test drove two hybrid SUVs,...

2006 Ford Escape Limited - not Hybrid

Date of Review:  May 27, 2006
The Bottom Line: Great suspension, electronic dashboard,V6,car like manuvering.Reduced insurance: embedded chip in key is a passive disabling device, safety package adds Canopy rollover protection system, front side air bags.
Review: I reviewed an SUV purchase for about 3 months and used a fax attack method via http://www.fightingchance.com/index.asp before I finally decided to purchase the Ford Escape Limited.

I did a test drive on several SUV's:
*2005 Ford...

Escape Hybrid - Great mileage in a SUV body

Date of Review:  Oct 12, 2005
The Bottom Line: This is a great car if you want the utility of a 4WD SUV without needing to drag a fuel tanker behind you.
Review: I bought a 2006 Ford Escape Hybrid 2 months ago. The main reason that I purchased it was to support the only US manufacturer of hybrid vehicles. I also recently bought a home, and I thought it would be nice to have an SUV that gets good mileage...

My second Escape

Date of Review:  Dec 6, 2005
The Bottom Line: I love this thing of beauty, function and design. The future is here!
Review: Previously I owned a 2003 Escape that I bought new in 2003. As the warranty was shortly to end I decided to look around see what was available. I'm pretty much a confirmed Ford customer having bought about a dozen new ones and virtually all have...

The highest mileage 4wd available...and a really nice ride!

Date of Review:  Apr 24, 2006
The Bottom Line: Simply the highest mileage 4wd out there, if you need to go in the snow, and bring your kid to hockey practice, and drive mostly in-town, this makes sense!
Review: Well, it was new car time and my wife had only two requirements...it had to be 4WD and it had to be a wagon. And I'd refined this list down to the Subaru Outback LLbean. Our current stable was her Saab 900 4cyl and my Chevy Tahoe 8cyl. My intent was...

Love the hybrid/SUV combination!

Date of Review:  Mar 29, 2006
The Bottom Line: If you love SUVs, this is the car for you. The gas mileage is great and I enjoy a compact car that's easy to maneuver and looks great, too.
Review: Ford has done a great job incorporating the hybrid technology and the SUV styling. I bought my 2006 Escape last August because we needed to scale down our full-sized van for something more economical. I thoroughly love my Escape!

2006 Escape 5-speed

Date of Review:  Oct 10, 2007
The Bottom Line: I really wanted a small SUV with 5-speed. Not many around. Nice little SUV.
Review: I have the base model 2006 Escape in Titanium Green. It's a 4-cylinder with a 5-speed, AWD. I get up to 29 mpg, on regular gas. Of course, average gas mileage is less, but still very good - I'd say in the mid-20s depending on driving conditions...

Good Enough: Value

Date of Review:  Jun 23, 2006
The Bottom Line: The 2006 Ford Escape is a reasonably good value. Look elsewhere if you want a comfortable, stylish or fun SUV, though.
Review: I couldn't help but notice that the other reviews for the Ford Escape (2006) were largely gushing, with owners giving out lots of stars. That's why I am adding my two bits, as it were.

The short version is this: The Ford Escape is good...

Great SUV for the money

Date of Review:  Mar 19, 2006
The Bottom Line: Responsive, sporty and good price point
Review: Responsive handling, manageable size, and sporty look have been very satisfying.

After researching and test driving at least 12 vehicles (RAV4, Forester, Infinity FX, Suzuki Grand Vitara, Jeep Liberty, etc.) over the course of a year, I...
