Product Review

2004 Taurus SE/1997 Taurus SEL/2004 Taurus SES - Have 3

by   mpickett ,   May 19, 2007

Pros:  Reliability, Safety, Cost, & decent gas mileage for a V6

Cons:  Depreciation only if you keep your car for a long time

The Bottom Line:  Highly recommend the purchase of a new or used Taurus. Unfortunately they discontinued the Taurus so buy a used one and take advantage of the depreciation.

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

Author's Review

We just brought our 3rd Taurus. The first 2 we bought new with some unbelievable rebates. The 1997 Taurus SEL & the 2004 Taurus SES has only required normal maintenance (brakes, tires, oil & filter changes. The 1997 has 100,000 miles on it and is going strong. The 2004 SES fully loaded for only 18,000 out the door. Both have been wonderful cars and very dependable. The gas mileage for a V6 is not bad at 22mpg mixed city/Hwy. We have 2 teenage drivers & 3 cars were not enough. The debate was to buy new or used for the 4th car. We went the used route and kept gravitating toward the Taurus. We new how dependable they were from experience. The used priced could not be beat. Our third Taurus is a 2004 SE with 85000 miles for only $4800. So when they say Tauruses depreciate quickly, they were correct. We would never know that because we drive our cars to the grave. I would highly recommend buying a Taurus and taking advantage of the high depreciation and buy a fairly new used one.

The body style is not an eye catcher, but if you want a sports car then buy one. This is a very dependable family car. I feel much better knowing my teenagers are driving a car with ABS brakes in Michigan winters. There are a lot of them on the road, but have you ever wonder why? The cost and reliability can not be beat. It is one of the number one cars that rental facilities and businesses use. That should tell you a lot.

I would highly recommend buying a Taurus and taking advantage of the high depreciation and buy a fairly new used one.
