My semi-retirement toy

by   porcupine1 ,  Feb 6, 2005
Pros: Too many pro's. just a fun ride
Cons: The 4.6 V8 is really bad on gas, very poor fuel economy.
The Bottom Line: So far I would buy this vehicle again. EXTREME tight turning radius. Rides great, Looks great. BUT Is REALLY BAD ON GAS. That's the V8. The V6 might be better.
Review: I've only had my Explorer for about a week. I find it an absolutely awesome vehicle. It's roomy for the two of us. Kids are all grown up and have they're own families. Now we're able to travel and enjoy a few things. I had my eye on the Explorer for some ...

Great SUV, Highly Recommend It

by   bimmerguy ,  Jul 25, 2004
Pros: Great space, power, and looks.
Cons: None that come to mind.
The Bottom Line: Highly recommended... it's been a trouble free car. The 2002 Explorer had some bugs (Aunt owns an '02) that have been worked out for '03. Very reliable.
Review: I have had this car since March of 2003, and it has been nothing but a great SUV. My Explorer is the XLT Sport with the 4.0L 6-cylinder engine. It is fully loaded, it has 4WD, the upgraded 6 Disc CD player/stereo, moonroof, towing package, leather, 3rd ...

Solid, thoughtfully designed SUV

by   Smithreenz ,  Mar 5, 2003
Pros: Nice interior, great sound system, good build quality, great handling and ride
Cons: Gas mileage is not too bad, but it's worse than a car of course
The Bottom Line: Great quality, great functionality, car-like ride....all the reasons why it's the best-selling SUV in these here United States!
Review: About a month ago, I purchased a new 2003 Ford Explorer XLT Sport (4-door/not to be confused with the 2-door Sport). Major options I chose were leather, moonroof, and a 6-disc in-dash CD player with 7 speakers. A few other nice touches that came with it ...

Ford Impresses My Foreign-Loving Husband!

by   doraexplorer ,  Mar 24, 2003
Pros: Smooth ride, impressive "luxuries," nice styling!
Cons: No, the gas mileage isn't great!
The Bottom Line: If Ford can turn my husband's head, who "only buys foreign" and wants the ultimate in luxury all the time... it's got to be GREAT!!!
Review: My husband and I just purchased a 2003 AWD v8 Ford Explorer Limited. This is the vehicle that I primarily drive now, and I traded my 1998 Chevy Cavalier for it, so with that in mind, almost anything would've been a vast improvement, but we have been ...

Best compromise of 3-seater mid-size SUV's, great to drive!

by   djarvis2 ,  Mar 25, 2003
Pros: Still love at 8 months. Comfortable seats, ride, lots room, gadgets. Leather seats NICE.
Cons: Buttons instead of dial for 4WD. Power mirrors don't "remember" drivers. Cargo cover not included.
The Bottom Line: UPDATE: Had it 8 months, still love it! Great family truck, hauls a lot in luxurious solid style.
Review: UPDATE: 11-7-03 Still loving this truck! I get 21 mpg on the freeway, and about 14mpg in town. No problems yet after 8 months with the new truck. Now that it's getting cold again, I love my heated seats and strong fan with the Auto heater that only st ...

2003 Explorer Eddie Bauer - my best vehicle yet

by   victoriantea ,  Jun 13, 2008
Pros: Ride, power, towing capacity, comfort and bells & whistles
Cons: Gas mileage can be bad if you're a lead foot
The Bottom Line: I definitely would recommend it for anyone wanting to tow a travel trailer. The V6 has the same mileage as the V8 with less power!
Review: I looked around for a 2002-2005 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer 4.6L V8 because we are buying a travel trailer and want the power of a V8 - great timing we have with the gas crisis happening right now but oh well. This vehicle was in good condition when I ...

Great for Families

by   qtkissiebear ,  Feb 27, 2004
Pros: It is great for families of all kinds.
Cons: I have to take it back for emmissions recall.
The Bottom Line: My final recommendation is that you should go down to your local Ford dealer and check it out for yourself!
Review: We bought our Sport Track XLT in April of 03. Now, this was not our first choice in vehicles, but it was in our price range and it helped that my husband works for Ford, so we got a generous discount on it. Our first choice would have been to go with a ...

Still the best selling SUV

by   perasyte ,  Jan 27, 2003
Pros: Even better than last years model
Cons: None so far
The Bottom Line: The benefits of an Explorer (price inclusive) far outweigh those of other SUV models.
Review: I've been leasing my new 2003 Explorer for 2 months now, and have no complaints. This years model seems even more solid than last years. The luxury features seem to be implemented as standard features in this years model... such as the back seat vents...

2003 Ford Sport Trac XLT: A Bright Idea

by   glenda79416 ,  Dec 16, 2002
Pros: Nice contemporary styling; great sound system (Pioneer Premium); luxury pickup
Cons: None
The Bottom Line: I have the V-6 and it got 23 mpg on it's first road trip. That is superb for a vehicle in this class. I highly recommend this vehicle!
Review: I had a 2000 Ford Explorer XLT and loved that vehicle, but really needed a vehicle that I could do light exterior hauling in. The 2003 Explorer Sport Trac XLT fit my needs precisely. It's a vehicle with luxury styling, not just the run-of-the-mill...

My first SUV

by   hondo25 ,  Apr 28, 2003
Pros: Truck based SUV with excellent ride and handling
Cons: Gas mileage and limited everyday 4x4 capability
The Bottom Line: Highly Recommended
Review: This is my first SUV. I had always admired the Ford Explorer since it first came out in the early 90's. For the most part it was always a little out of my price range or I would have purchased one much earlier.

I'm kind of an impulse...
